    3. Thanks Leslie, I attended a funeral for a colleague's father about 5 years ago in Quyon and couldn't help but notice all of the Lang headstones in the cemetery. I am not aware of any connection to that area but I do not rule anything out! My Langs are definitely of Scottish heritage as both the Canada Census and an extract from the Registry of Deaths for Ontario indicate this. There are several James' in my tree so please let me know what you come up with. Thanks! 3. Hello Leslie:- WOW!Is the surname FISHER ever familiar to me!! I am not against Roll Calls, but prefer these spaced for ALL THE TIME with SEARCHING used as the prefix in the subject line. [I am still deleting from two other huge list roll calls]. 3. My ancestors emigrated from Northern Ireland in the early 1800s and settled around Thorne Quebec, my ggrandfather and grandfather had a farm in Ladysmith, Quebec (outside Shawville). My gggfather was James Lang, who married Mathilda Prendergast. My grandfather was Earl Lang, married to Esther Desjardins from Beachburg. Many of the Langs (a huge family)were farmers and loggers on the Ottawa. I will go back to my records and see if indeed there is a George in the flock. He is not a brother of my grandfather's, but could be a ggg uncle. I live outside of Carleton Place and know that the Purdy name is very common in Lanark/Carleton counties. 3. I checked the McGill digital collection for the county atlas, and the 1879 Nepean Map is at: http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/Countyatlas/images/maps/townshipmaps/car-m-nepean.jpg This is a big map. You can access the site at: http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/Countyatlas/ I checked the people in Nepean in this atlas and there is a Rev T McAmmond at Conc. OF II lot 27 and a Mrs. Irwin at lot 24. There does not appear to be a building on her lot, but there is one on the reverends. Lot 35 Conc A appears to be a lot just down the road. It is subdivided into 21 strips, with no names apparent. These lots front on what is now the south side of Baseline Road between Clyde and Fisher. A road cuts across the last 8 strips. These strips do not show a building on these maps. 3. To all:- This is NOT a political message for any certain party or politician, but after watching the annual Tournament of Roses Parade this morning, held in a heavy downpour of rain (first since 1955), it made me wonder what our voting day will be like as we go from coast-to-coast-to-coast. [Parades are not held on a Sunday, due to a ruling by committee] I have already marked my 2006 calendar with the three Advance Polling days, a Friday, Saturday and Monday -- surely we will have good weather on one of these - do not trust the 23rd as it could be like a report issued by a weatherman. Should anyone not have received cards to date, this map might help you locate riding and candidate(s) -- this message is on behalf of ALL parties:- http://www.ctv.ca/mini/election2006/provincial_list/riding_finder.html Should anyone be so lucky to be heading to warmer climates, visit your local Returning Office and take your Library or even a Telephone bill -- something with name and address to prove you are actually who you state you are! Happy warm vacation! Canadians do not only live in Canada -- those in United States, England and other places vote by MAIL -- ask me if you have not been contacted or do not know procedure.. Our service personnel are already in the process of voting by mail/letter procedure. None of the EARLY votes will be opened until Jan. 23 and I personally predict snow shovel weather for that date!! Remember, the cost of an election is paid by US -- let's ALL take advantage of OUR $$$$ and cast our personal vote. Muriel M. 1. 1911 Census Records in Automated Genealogy Format
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- We enjoyed our seven year battle for the 1911 census, but let's hope Carleton County will soon reach the 100% mark and complete the many pages -- our ancestors! Some genealogical groups are transcribing from the images and have their own sites for storage. These pages will be the complete images and the work has been wonderful. Very often, before checking for the images, the Automated Genealogy format will be much simpler. It is Canada-wide and as soon as a page is claimed, it is sent directly to Library and Archives Canada -- making it simpler for one to locate ancestors. Once located, microfiche is available at libraries or the genealogical society may have already assisted you in your search. Carleton County has reached the 43.26% mark -- Ontario is at the 51.62% mark in transcription. Let's join Lunenburg County in Nova Scotia and the Yukon with 100.00 %!!! I noticed there are many pages with only several lines transcribed. Should any reader be the guilty one, please do NOT claim the page, as other transcribers will be unable to finish the 50 lines. Keep a bit of paper and pen handy or use one of the available blank forms. Should anyone need assistance, please contact me personally -- should I not be able to assist, I have several upon whom I may call for more advice. Muriel M. 1. Re: [Can-Ont-Carleton] Rideau Hall - 1881 Census
    2. marg mcfarlane
    3. Hi: The address is 1 Sussex Drive, at least now it is. If you google Rideau Hall a number of info pages come up including: http://www.answers.com/topic/rideau-hall According to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_General_of_Canada the Marquess of Lorne, John Douglas Sutherland Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, was the Governor General from 1878 - 1883. Here is info on him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_George_Edward_Henry_Douglas_Sutherland_Campbell%2C_9th_Duke_of_Argyll and on that page, in part: "For the first time, Rideau Hall would have a royal resident - Queen Victoria's fourth daughter, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, had married Lord Lorne on March 21, 1871. The Canadian Prime Minister relaxed his busy campaign schedule to prepare for her arrival and to organize a special carriage and corps of guards to protect the princess." Perhaps the Archivists at the National Archives might be able to give you info/guidance but it will take months to get an answer: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/02020901_e.html You could ask if the Governor General's residence was included on Canadian censi and that, specifically, you are looking for residents of 1 Sussex Drive at the time of the 1881 census. You might also ask them to forward your request for info to the appropriate department if they can. The 1871 Ontario Census Index to head of household is searchable at: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/02010803_e.html I only input under the heading occupation, the words Governor General and up came the Governor General in 1871. Unfortunately, that search option is not available on the 1881 census at www.familysearch.org. At the time of the 1871 census, 1 Sussex Drive was in the Russell District, New Edinburgh subdistrict and as my relatives lived in New Edinburgh, I have been on www.mapquest.com to look at their streets and 1 Sussex Drive was also there then. So now you can go to your local LDS family history centre and get them to order in the appropriate microfilm of the 1881 Ontario census for New Edinburgh, which according to the LDS website, would be this one, I think: ONTARIO, RUSSELL COUNTY (no. 104, a-g): Clarence - Cambridge - Cumberland - Russell - Gloucester - New-Edinburg, Village - Osgoode OTTAWA (CITY), (no. 105, a-b): Wellington Ward - Victoria Ward FHL US/CAN Census Area Film #1375865 Staff at your LDS family history centre should be able to help you verify that this is the correct film. Hope this helps a bit! 1. Transcribing Our Long Awaited 1911 Census Records
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Many seem to be transcribing the 1911 census records with Automated Genealogy, which is Canada-wide and is linked to Library and Archives Canada. I have been transcribing various pages in Shelburne County, plus other places and have one special request:- If YOU are searching for a certain family, write your findings down on a piece of paper -- please do not start the 50 lines per page with Line 8 and end it with Line 14 -- let's finish the complete page -- only 50 line. Others are not claiming the page -- which I found great today!! There were many errors, which I corrected, then claimed the page. Once a page has been claimed, it can only be opened by the one whose name is beside it. Yukon, with a small population, is 100.00% finished. Nova Scotia is next with 71.73%; NorthWest Territories 64.93%; Prince Edward Island 64.01% and New Brunswick 54.28%. All others are below 50%. Muriel M. New Year's with the great parade at Pasadena is next week, but after that, let's get these lists really working -- some could use more activity whether queries, history or data. 3. To: Hon. Albina Guarnieri; Hon. Bill Graham; Hon. John McCallum Many thanks for the letter with condolences following the death of my husband, a RCNVR veteran of WWII - he is now at rest. However, I strongly feel the Order in Council (P.C. 3264) dated August 14, 1946 should definitely be reopened. I know that the records of 14,100 service personnel will be more likely about 5,000 at the present time. The records were presumably dumped because personnel went "absent without leave or deserted between Sept. 10, 1939 and January 1, 1946". One of the "deserters" passed away Oct. 31, 2005 in The Year of the Veteran -- an engineer, Army lieutenant in charge of Bailey bridges in Europe. His "desertion" was an extra year as a member of the Allied Occupation Force in Holland. However, I did assist my cousin in regaining TRUE veteran status. These missing veterans are "out there" and should contact the Department of Veterans Affairs Canada -- I have phone numbers. The Hon. Bill Graham has committed that National Defence will review an infividual's "deemed never to have served" status for any who come forward -- the title of VETERAN is important, should nursing home care be necessary, due to age of personnel. There is a toll free number re services and benefits - 1-866-522-2122 The Year of the Veteran should be extended for MISSING PERSONNEL. Muriel M. 1. 1911 Census Transcribing and Home Children
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all -- At present, the 1911 census records are NOT a political item, but very definitely an integral part of our genealogical search. I have been using Automated Genealogy which only includes the first page -- microfiche would have both pages. Last evening, while transcribing Barrington Passage records in Shelburne County, I came across the first HOME GIRL, Mary Crowell in Family No. 101, age 59. This means if she is one of the Home Children, she would have been born 1852. http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test9.jsp?id=43155 [Do not worry -- I will be finishing the 50 lines -- I know the surnames] There have been many others, not listed as HOME Girl or Boy, but in a family listing are enumerated at the end of the family grouping. The family may have small children -- then we find older teens, all listed generally as Domestic. Very possibly we should be keeping the site and page number, also names of possible Home Children. There were about 100,000 sent over from Great Britain from about 1860 to 1930 -- at present there has only been 25% or more identified. Muriel M.
