I am now looking for information on a W.H. Thompson, cheese maker, from the Ottawa Valley who may have employed A.D. Millar for four years beginning in 1883. Thanks. Wendy.
Can any one help me regarding John Donaldson who married Martha Angus on February 5, 1868, Ottawa District. The marriage took place at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church - Church of Scotland. I'm looking for John Donaldson's parents names and witnesses whose names will hopefully be mentioned. Kindest regards Joan Leathem - Kitwe, Zambia, Africa
To all readers:- Today I received ONLY four (4) petitions for the Senate from the following places:- Gig Harbor, Washington, USA Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA Big Stone Gap, Virginia, USA Blaine, Washington, USA Sorry! That's all, folks!!! The Non-Resident petitions are very welcome! CANADIANS need to become involved -- if not by petitions, write letters if YOUR Senator or Member of Parliament is not supportive. Please remember, it is OUR Canadian census -- IF you wish to get the records released, please help -- Gordon Watts and I cannot do your work for all of you -- he is in BC and I am in Ontario -- but I admit Nova Scotia's GOLD looks great!!! The main requisite to any LETTER is YOUR address -- my Ontario address does not really belong in Quebec, Nunavut, etc. This coming weekend is a time for people to gather -- BE PREPARED!! As a former Assistant Scoutmaster, I feel the motto is appropriate. Hope the next four letters will be from Canadians!!! Muriel M. A great deal of additional reading for all interested in Ottawa happenings! Muriel M. Davidson [email protected] Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee -------------------------------------- Greetings All. Files for updating the Post 1901 Census Project Website (at the URL following my signature) have just been sent and should be loaded to the server within a few days. These files bring the Hansard extracts, in both english and french languages, of Senate Debates relating to Census and Bill S-12 up to date as of 21 March. The next pages to be updated, aside from the MP and Senator Scoreboards, will be those for the Hansard extracts of Debates in the House of Commons. Other recent additions to the website have been pages relating to our Application for a Judicial Review in the Federal Court, the Town Hall Meetings, my Critique of the so-called 'Compromise Solution', and links to subscribe to the Canada Census Campaign mail list. On 15 March 2002 I sent an Access to Information Request for the Environice Research Report on the Town Hall Meetings and Focus Groups held in December and January. I received confirmation of receipt of my request on Wednesday, 20 March. Statistics Canada has 30 days in which to respond to my request. By law, they must either provide the Report, or if they intend to publish it within 90 days they can refuse my request. On Wednesday as well, I was advised that Professor Bill Waiser of the University of Saskatchewan, and one of our plaintiffs in the legal action, has submitted his own ATI request for the Environics Report. Forwarded for Lois Sparling, Calgary. Muriel M. Davidson [email protected] ----------------------------------------------------- Dear Folks Just to up-date the genealogy community at large; The action to compel the federal government to release the 1906 census of the Prairie Provinces was filed and served in mid February. We have also filed and served Affidavits by each of our 11 Plaintiffs (Applicants). The Defendants (Respondents) must serve us with their Affidavits by April 5. There are very strict time limits for each step in this particular court procedure. To get right to the bottom line, all material, including written argument, must be filed with the court by the end of June. We can then get a court date for the hearing - likely early fall. The name of the case is Beatty et al versus The Chief Statistician et al. Our 11 Applicants come from 4 provinces and include professional as well as amateur genealogists. One is a history professor. Our fund-raising goal for this court action was $8,000. Today we surpassed $12,000. Lois Sparling Calgary, Alberta --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. To all:- We MUST, at present, follow requests as received -- write to our own MP or Senator -- above all help both Murray Calder and Senator Lorna Milne with many signatures on petitions. Muriel M. Davidson [email protected] http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm ----------------------------------------------------- Greetings All. Our past efforts in encouraging all to write letters and email to all MPs and Senators have been tremendously successful, and we thank all that done so. We have had indications that in the offices of many of our elected and appointed representatives, messages regarding support for access to Historic Census Records far outnumber messages received on any other subject. From this we can safely assume that all Members of Parliament and Senators are now most certainly aware of our feelings on this subject. We have also had indications that, with a new Minister of Industry, some things are once again happening behind the scenes. As such it is perhaps time now for a slight change in tactics to allow those working on our behalf the opportunity to see some results from their efforts. We still encourage all to write letters to their own Member of Parliament, to those Senators that represent the area in which they live, and of course the applicable Ministers. We would ask, however, for the time being at least, you restrict your letters to your own representatives, and do not send blanket letters and email to all of them. A few word about your letters and email. We have been advised that in some cases, messages to our representatives have crossed the boundary from encouraging them to support our point of view, to harassment and demands that they do so. This kind of message only serves to get their back up and even if they were inclined to see things our way, they get angry and say "To h*** with them!" I have been copied on some letters, that had they been directed to me, would have caused this reaction from myself. Our purpose in writing is to get our representatives to join in our effort, not to antagonize or annoy them. In that regard we should keep the following in mind: * Be polite and respectful in your comments. * If your purpose in writing is to inform, keep your comments factual. * If your purpose is to request their support -- request it -- don't demand it. * Above all, do not let your message be a personal attack on any individual because they might have a different point of view than you do. I repeat -- be polite and respectful. In this age of electronic communication it is easy to zip off an email and send it to many people at the same time. I confess to being guilty of frequently doing this myself. We have been reminded lately, however, that many of our representatives would put more stock in, and more readily pay attention to, an individual letter from a constituent (particularly a hand written one) than they would to 100 email from non-constituents. With this in mind we suggest for the time being, rather than using email you send personal letters via Canada Post. If mailed in Canada there is no postage required to send a letter or parcel to any Member of Parliament or Senator. If your handwriting is legible (mine isn't) use pen and ink to write it. If your handwriting is not legible by all means use your typewriter or word processor to print it out before mailing - [add signature in handwriting, please - MMD]. If you receive a response that shows a different position than those shown on the MP or Senator Scoreboards, please forward a copy to me so that their position can be brought up to date. Thank you all for your support. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Hi there - out of your three choices, and the time frame of 1831, you can eliminate Cumberland, British Columbia. It could be either Ontario or Nova Scotia during that time frame. Maggi, We have just had a death in the family and so I am not doing much genie stuff at the moment........ But..to let you know.........I do not think we have a connection..for this reason: Arthur LLOYD was a General with the British...born in Ireland and died in England (1851) and he was credited with helping build an Anglican Church in March Twp in the 1830's. Wish it were otherwise! Hi List, I am endeavouring to find descendants of Thomas Henry BONWICK and Clara Emma BONIFACE. Thomas Henry Bonwick is my Grandfather's brother. Thomas worked on the Canadian National Railways and died 1958 in Ottawa. His wife Clara Emma died 1962. Their children: Thomas Edwin BONWICK. Florence Emily Bonwick married W.E.McCLURE. Gracie Clara Bonwick married Joseph A WOOFF. Gertrude Winifred Bonwick married Robert Michael MORLEY. Any information on any of the above families would be greatly appreciated or to be pointed in the right direction. TIA Frank Parish Western Australia.
Thanks very much, not surprising. Michele > Michele: > I am sorry to say that on checking the index of Carleton Saga, the names > COSIER and GLOVER are not mentioned. > > Keep searching! >

Hi, I would appreciate if you could look up the surnames of COSIER and GLOVER in the above History book. Many thanks for your help. Michele in Sydney, Australia

Maggi, I did a quick check of the index for you. Of your names, only LLOYD, General Arthur, of March TWP is referenced. There is extensive info on him and his influence on the original settlement of March Twp. (However,... since LLOYD happens to be the name that I was researching, I can add that the General and his wife Ann(e) Monk 'adopted' my ggg grandfather, James Campbell USHER and as far as I know...I am willing to be corrected!...they did not have any 'natural' children.) I still say that the book is a 'great read'. Good luck in your search.
