    1. RE: [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] Moore's
    2. The Mulligans
    3. Hello Michael & Delbert: Michael, when I saw your email, I had to go back and check for a few familiar names in my tree. Here's what I have on the Moores... 1. Dudley1 Moore was born 08 August 1773 in Saratoga Springs, Saratoga, New York, USA, and died 17 March 1852 in Eardley, Quebec, Canada. He married Mary Moulton. She was born 08 August 1774 in Windsor, Vermont, USA, and died 1845 in Eardley, Quebec, Canada. Child of Dudley Moore and Mary Moulton is: i. Levi2 Moore, b. 04 July 1802, Rutland, Vermont, USA; d. 02 June 1877, Eardley, Quebec, Canada; m. Phoebe Mulligan, 1826; b. 1797; d. 13 August 1877, Eardley, Quebec, Canada. More About Levi Moore and Phoebe Mulligan: Marriage: 1826 Phoebe was the daughter of Thomas Mulligan and Dorothy Leathem. Then, I also have a Catherine Moore who married Jeremiah Lawless... Descendants of Michael Moore Generation No. 1 1. Michael1 Moore He married Jane Fairburn. Child of Michael Moore and Jane Fairburn is: 2. i. Catherine2 Moore. Generation No. 2 2. Catherine2 Moore (Michael1) She married Jeremiah Lawless 17 June 1889, son of John Lawless and Catherine Kelly/Kealey. He was born 1862 in Maniwaki, Quebec, Canada, and died 01 March 1935. More About Jeremiah Lawless and Catherine Moore: Marriage: 17 June 1889 I have Catherine & Jeremiah's children if you're interested. I would like to find the grandparents of Catherine Kelly/Kealey. John & Catherine were married at Notre Dame in 1849. The National Archives has her parents listed as Elizabeth Mulligan & Thimothy Kelly. Catherine would be my great great great grandmother. To find out who this Elizabeth Mulligan's parents were would help me connect her to my husband. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Ross Murphy [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 9:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] Moore's Delbert: I have quite a few Moores born in the Aylmer & Eardley area of West Quebec that I have birth dates for. 3. Does anyone know where this outfit is? They don't seem to be anywhere in the Ottawa 'phone book and a door-to-door search on Daly Street didn't work either. They ARE somewhere down there, near Ottawa U, and may be affiliated with the Grey Nuns. They apparently have printed records of all the early records of Notre Dame Cathedral, Mariages du Pontiac, etc. Anybody actually been there and have an address or 'phone number? Thanks, ... Al

    1. [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] Surnames JORDAN and NEVINS - Osgoode Township, 1840's
    2. Al Lewis
    3. Any Jordans or Nevins out there - if so, we're probably related. I'd like to find from which County in Ireland they came. And, here's a little story: The Stone Walls on the Jordan Farm: About 1840 Francis NEVINS / EVANS homesteaded in Concession 3 of Osgoode Township - the east half of Lot 12. This is the farm behind the Sleepy Cedars Campground on the Manotick Station Road and is now part of the city of Ottawa. He came onto his property from the Stage Coach Road to the east and found that the best site for a home was at the back of the farm. He cleared enough land for his log house, garden and some outbuildings and settled in to farm and raise his family. A few years later, the Jordan family came to settle on the adjoining farm (Sleepy Cedars Campground property - the west half of lot 12 in Concession 3). Both the Nevins and Jordan farms were originally composed of 100 acres. It was soon discovered that, by mistake, Francis Nevins had cleared and was using about 35 acres of the Jordan property, in addition to his own 100 acres. This land dispute was settled amicably and out of court when Francis Nevins agreed to buy the extra 35 acres from the Jordan family. Microfilm reel number TP-2 at the Osgoode Township Museum has the documentation and some hand-drawn diagrams attached to the correspondence between the Nevins, the Jordans and the Land Office to rectify the situation and is an example of the early spirit of co-operation between pioneer neighbours. The fences marking the boundary between the Nevins and Jordan properties are not just wooden fences. They are massive stone walls, eight feet wide at the base and were engineered using masonry skills used on the building of the Rideau Canal. As the fields were cleared for cultivation, very large stones were moved by oxen pulling "stone-boats" and carefully set in place by the men. Good fences make good neighbours. My great-great grandfather, Lawrence Burns, married his neighbour Bridget Jordan in 1845. He was the widow of Margaret Doyle whom he had married at Notre Dame Church in Bytown in 1831. Any cousins out there? ... Al Lewis, Ottawa

His motion was as follows: "That Bill S-12 be not now read a third time but that it be referred back to the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology for further study." His stated purpose in doing so was to allow Canada's Chief Statistician, Dr. Ivan Fellegi, to respond to a number of statements made by Senator Milne during debate. This even though the statements referred to had echoed those made long before the Committee had made clause by clause deliberation of Bill S-12 last December, and for which Dr. Fellegi had had ample time in which to respond. Dr. Fellegi had declined to attend the Committee hearings on 19 September 2002, instead delegating his assistant, Michael Sheridan to appear in his stead. This motion was post-poned during debate on 7 March so as to allow some consultation with the Chair of the Committee, Senator Michael Kirby, regarding the work load of the Committee and availability of time for the Committee to receive Dr. Fellegi. On 25 March 2002, following that consultation, Senator Murray once again brought forward his motion to refer S-12 back to the Committee. Based on information gained from consultation with Senator Kirby, Senator Milne was able to amend Senator Murray's motion to add a time limitation within which the Committee would be required to return Bill S-12 to the Senate. As things stand at this moment, Bill S-12 has been referred back to Committee to allow Dr. Fellegi the opportunity to appear before them. It is expected that if he appears, that wll take place on Wednesday 17 April 2002, the only time the Committee has free with their current workload. The amended motion referring Bill S-12 back to Committee requires that it be returned to the Senate Chamber no later than Tuesday 30 April 2002. This further delay, although disappointing, is not necessarily a bad thing, and at least in this instance the delay has had some limits put on it. It should give Senator Milne another crack at dispelling some of the misinformation that has been put out by Statistics Canada and Dr. Fellegi. It will be interesting to see if Dr. Felligi uses his appearance to further his promotion of the non-existant "promise" of confidentiality without end. It will be interesting also to see if he selectively uses information from the recently held Focus Groups to justify his position. It certainly cannot be justified on the basis of results of the Town Hall Meetings. The Hansard extracts of Senate debates relating to the Census issue, and specifically Bill S-12, are currently up to date, (with the exception of yesterdays debate which should be online within a few days) and are available on the Post 1901 Census Project website at the URL following my signature. Of particular interest in relation to Bill S-12 are the debates of 14 December 2001, 19 February and 7 March 2002. On 19 February and 7 March, Senator Murray speaks against Bill S-12. During debate on 25 March (on line shortly) Senator Milne dispells some of the misinformation offered by Senator Murray in his speeches. On another subject, I have been advised today that MP Murray Calder's Bill C-312 (identical to S-12) is currently scheduled for its one hour of debate on Tuesday 9 April 2002. Allowing for possible further delays in the House, it could happen on 10 or 11 April. I continue to urge all to write to their own MPs seeking support for Bill C-312 and for unanimous consent of the House to make the Bill votable. Write your Senators also for their support for Bill S-12. As usual, we continue to seek signatures on petitions for BOTH the Senate and the House of Commons. Happy Hunting. Gordon A.
