    3. Hello List Members, At one point I thought I had nailed this line down, but it later turned out that I hadn't. I am trying to find out marriage information for Martha Van Cott Wetmore, and birth information for her children- Ann Wetmore Sherwood, Catherine Wetmore Sherwood, and John Wetmore Sherwood. Martha Van Cott Wetmore as born May 5, 1783 in New York and (I believe) died in Eastport, Maine on June 12, 1877 and is buried in Upper North Lubec Cemetery in North Lubec, Maine. She was the daughter of John Wetmore who was born on the 7th of July in 1755, in Rye, Westchester County, New York and who died the 4th of May in 1848, in Beaver River, Yarmouth or Digby County, Nova Scotia. Her mother was Anna Van Cott who was born on the 13th of July in 1757, in probably Bushwick, Long Island, New York and who died in 1802 in Carleton, St John, New Brunswick. Her paternal grandparents were James Wetmore who was born on the 19th of December in 1727, in Rye, Westchester County, New York and who died on the 10th of February in 1798, in Hammond River, Kings County, New Brunswick; and Elizabeth Abrahams who was born on the 15th of March in 1730 and who died on or soon before the 22nd of December 1808, in Hampton or Hammond River, Kings County, New Brunswick. For Wetmore researchers her line is Thomas(1) Izrahiah(2) James(3) James(4) John(5) Martha(6). Her siblings were Elizabeth Wetmore, b 1779; James Wetmore, b 1781;Catherine Wetmore, b 1785, d 1849; John Wetmore, b 1787; Ann Wetmore, b 1788, d 1881; Jesse Lamereux Wetmore, b 1790, d 1853; Daniel Van Cott Wetmore, b 1791, d 1881; David Wetmore, b 1793, d 1883; William Wetmore, b 1795; Edwin Wetmore, b 1797; and Susannah Wetmore, b 1799. I am wondering if anyone has record of her first husband being a George Sherwood, and her second husband being Stephen Pendleton of Northport, Maine, whom she would have married in Eastport, ME in 1827. I believe Martha Van Cott Wetmore had at least 3 children by her first husband; Ann Wetmore Sherwood b. about 1802 in New Brunswick, d. August 25, 1888 in Lewiston, Maine, m. August 8, 1819 in Calais, Maine Alexander Lamb of Windham, ME (had at least children Jerusha m. Samuel D. Strout; Nathaniel; James m. Louisa Doty/Doten; Joseph m. Mary M. Sherwood; and Esther m. Alvah Doty/Doten; possibly also had Mariah and Hattie); Catherine Wetmore Sherwood b. about 1804-1806 in Maine, d. July 22, 1870 in Lubec, Maine and married 1. Josiah Phelps of Eastport, ME on September 29, 1824 (had at least children Amanda Malvina Phelps and Lydia Eliza Phelps) and then m. 2. Stillman/Putnam Tucker (who may have lived in Trescott, Lubec and then Bucksport, Maine) on May 24, 1866; and finally John Wetmore Sherwood, b. December 4, 1808, Charlestown, MA and died June 12, 1855 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, m. Amanda Mitchell Merrill in St. Andrews, New Brunswick November 4, 1830 ( had children Mary M! ., Alithea B., Martha A., George E., John M., William H. H., Josephine A. and Theodore HILL Sherwood). George E. Sherwood was my GGGrandfather. Any marriage information about Martha Van Cott Wetmore, including information connecting her first husband George Sherwood to New Brunswick Sherwoods would be most helpful. There is a strong connection in this family to the CLARK surname which may be through either the WETMORES or the SHERWOODS (particularly the line of Justus Sherwood [Thomas (1) Stephen (2) Joseph (3) Joseph (4) Justus (5)], which married both Clarks as well as Wetmores in Martha's family. I also find the name Hill interesting in this regard, as a son of Justus Sherwood, Adiah, married a Hill. George Sherwood was apparently dead by 1820, as there is a Martha Sherwood, widow, listed as head of household in Boston near Charlestown in the 1820 census with a male and female child both over ten and under 16 (which fits with her children as her oldest, Ann, was married by then). Any information, no matter how seemingly small or insignificant, would be appreciated. Thanks for listening! Celia Schulz
