Dec. 28th 1889 schooner Lennie, of Yarmouth, was driven ashore at Sandy Cove, Digby Neck in a furious storm. Her captain and one seaman perished while the others barely escaped. Her master was Charles W. Porter of Ohio, Yarmouth County, father-in-law to Rev. I.W. Porter of Parrsboro, N.S. His widow who was with her daughter in Parrsboro, was entirely prostrated by the sad intelligence. He also leaves one son to share this great sorrow. Search for his body has so far proven fruitless. His death has cost a deep shadow over the community in which he resided where he was a general favourite and highly esteemed. He united with the Ohio Baptist Church in '64' and became a member of the North Temple Baptist Church in '88' and showed a readiness to witness for the Master when opportunity offered. He waits the time when "the sea shall give up its dead." The bereaved have received many kind expressions of sympathy and are sustained ! by the hope "we shall meet again."
