Origins and relatives uncertain. Born at sea off Nova Scotia, had several siblings. Moved as boy to Chelsea Harbor, Boston, Mass. Possible sibling, Joseph Hatfield m. Elizabeth Morten (NH) they lived in Chelsea around 1900-20 with a family and other brothers Curt and Roland Hatfield but family was said to move 'back' to Yarmouth.Said to have been a 'seaman' until moving to NH where he became a 'woodsman'.
