The Shelburne County Genealogical Society had a very successful launching of their "The Veterans of Shelburne County - A Memorial - Volume Three - The Korean War". A large turnout of society members, veterans of the war, their families and the public in general resulted in sales of most of the first printing. They kept editor Jim Smith (a Korean vet) busy signing their purchases. A well arranged (Jane Strange) program emceed by Korean veteran Dexter Bruce involved local cadets, Legion members and veterans of both the Second and Korean War was well received by those in attendance. 1950's period music was provided throughout the program by the local group Evergreen" featuring Loran Varner, Lynn Crowell and Don Randall. A tribute of thanks was offered by yours truly to our genealogist, Eleanor Robertson-Smith and her husband Jim. The success of this launching is due not only to the hard labors of Jim and Eleanor but to the efforts of our centre manager Kim Robertson-Walker and her staff of able volunteers. Copies of the book will be available at the Shelburne County Genealogical Centre at 902-875-4299, gencentre@ns.sympatico.ca.. Wally Buchanan President.

List I need help to find an un-named Sweeney who married William Gavel born between 1796-1825. He was son of George Gavel (1767-1825) and Rebecca Fraser who settled in Tusket Yarmouth Co. NS , c- 1800. George's father John Wesley Gavel Sr. was a U.E.L. from Staten Island NY. Does anyone know who this un-named Sweeney could be ? I have the genealogy of the James Sweeney family - Funeral Parlor founder. She is not there. Also have 2 other files of Sweeneys which does not mention a Sweeney lady marrying a Gavel. Thanks Bernice Allen

It's never easy figuring out the Acadian ancestors. I don't have any other Cyrille in my database who married a Vitaline. These were Quinan people so I'll look through Pere d's book some more. The way the names were written on the census doesn't necessarily resemble the real name so I don't get too concerned if the name isn't exactly right. Perhaps Pere d just missed this one. His records are at the museum in Pubnico. Or perhaps ATCHA could help and verify the birth of that child to Cyrille and Vitaline. Might be as easy as looking at the Quinan birth records!! But if it was that easy, then I suspect Pere d would have him listed. Sometimes the birth record just isn't there - I haven't found my grandfathers yet and I have been looking at the records for years. Of course there is always the possibility that he was not a child of those parents but was living with them. A common occurrence back then. I'll keep on looking and let you know if I find anything. I was hoping that they had a son named Alexander Cyrille Doucet, he was born in 1867. He died in Reading, Mass. in 1926 and on his death certificate his parents are listed as Cyril Doucet & Vitaline Doucet. I did notice in the 1881 census that there is a son listed for Cyrille & Vitaline born around 1867, but he is listed as Alin. Any suggestions? Thanks, Fred
