Treffry Died at Little River, Yarmouth County, April 4th, Mrs. Laleah Jane, the beloved wife of Mr. Rufus Treffry, aged 25. She was thoughtful from childhood, and early indulged a hope in Jesus. Her natural diffidence restrained her from openly confessing Christ, and a sense of unworthiness and fear that she had not really become a subject of saving grace, deprived her of much of that confidence and joy it is the christians privilege to possess. During her lingering illness her mind was much stayed on God, and at times she rejoiced in hope of heaven. It was to her a source of the deepest regret that she had not made a public profession of religion, and but for her great weakness and rapidly failing strength she would have been baptized in the likeness of Christ's death. She met death with great composure, "Welcome, sweet death," were among her last words. Besides her husband, she has left 2 children, and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. A funeral sermon was preached in the Free Christian Baptist meetinghouse at Chebogue, from Heb. iv. 9, by Rev. Henry Angell. ! I am a bit confused here because I thought they spelled it Meuse, but may be not. Does anyone have access to any information that would help me find out where and when Clara and John were married. Since the children were all born in MA, I think they may have married in Wakefield around 1917-18. Clara apparently immigrated in 1915, but I don't know whom with. Sorry if this is a bit confusing, but wiould appreciate any help that may help me sort it all out. Thank you Barbara

Long years ago Sister Hatfield accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour and united with the Tusket Baptist church. She was an uncompromising Baptist and was interested in the work of the denomination in all of its departments. Possessing a retentive memory she could relate many interesting and pleasing incidents in connection with the early history of the denomination. She loved to dwell particularly upon the earnestness, perseverance and devotion of the old time Christians. For fifty years she was a regular subscriber for the Christian Messenger and Messenger and Visitor. Its weekly visits to her home were hailed with delight. The "News from the Churches" was the first to attract her attention, and she rejoiced in their prosperity. Two sisters and one brother survive her. By loving hands her remains were laid to rest in the Tuske! t cemetery until the coming of her Lord. >From the Baptist paper: Messenger and Visitor, 1898.....July 27th issue

List Att. Bob G I am confused by info from a Cann File, which contradicts info in Coreen Sheldrick's Whitehouse file. The Cann file shows; William ( ?- ?) m. 1848 Eliza Allen (d/o Pineas) He was s/o Joseph (1781-1863) and Mary Pitman . Their son (1) William Harris (1833-1902) m. Rosanne Scott Crosby (1844-1897) (2) Joseph Thomas (1838-1911) m. 1861 Maletelda Ann Cann (1842-1914) It gives Joseph T born in Ont. and living in Deerfield in the 1901 census. The Whitehouse file gives his birthplace as Argyle NS The Whitehouse file shows; William Harris and Joseph Thomas as sons of William*2 Whitehouse (1809-1879) and Ann Crowell (1809-1842) Both files show Norman (1849-1913) (s/o Wm.*2 married Elizabeth Cann m. April 12, 1873 in Deerfield, but the Cann file does not show Norman's parents. The Whitehouse says Norman is s/o Wm*2 & Ann Crowell. Elizabeth Cann was dtr of John H Cann & Mary F Whitehouse (1863---) dtr of Joseph Thomas & Matilda Ann Cann (Cann file) From William & Eliza's marriage date of 1848, its unlikely they had William H in 1833 & Joseph T in 1838. MA. I am trying to link him to his Mass. family and cannot determine that. His 1st wife was Mary Brown, daughter of James Brown of Ipswich and one of the 1st grantees in Yarmouth, N.S. He and Mary are buried in Frost Park, Yarmouth, N.S. Thomas Dane's will on file in Yarmouth states that his second son, known as Thomas B. Dane, son of second wife Mary Barnard, is named Thomas Benjamin- not Thomas Barnard- I presume in honor of his mother's father, Benjamin Barnard- quite a revelation to me! Thomas B. and his mother, Jane Stoneman are buried in Mountain Cem. ,Yarmouth. The other child of the second wife is Maria, who married Eleazer Richan. Yarmouth Museum has portraits of Maria and Eleazer. Thomas Dane and 1st wife, Mary Brown also had only one son, James B. Dane- my g-g grandfather, and two daughters - Mary and Sophia. Could Thomas Dane- the 1st Dane in Yarmouth- and a Tinsmith in 1827 Canadian Census, be related to Thomas Dane a Boston silversmith in 1745,born in Ipswich 1726, died 1795??
