Hello Wendy:- Would the PORTER'S LAKE you mention be east of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia? If so it is in Halifax County, and not Shelburne County. Have you ever searched for NSARM (Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management)? The staff might be able to assist you, as I have found records back to 1750 and earlier. Also, would you happen to know the church to which the family belonged? Records were not really kept until 1867, but you might be fortunate in obtaining the information desired.
