Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YOC.2ACE/773.1 Message Board Post: Jackie, There is a Catherine Harpel in Shelburne, NS. However, she was married to Christian Swinburg and is my gggggreat grandmother. CHRISTIAN SWINBURG was born Abt. 1750 in Hesse, Germany, and died August 16, 1827 in Sugar Plantation, Trinidad. He married CATHERINE HARPEL in New York. She was born Abt. 1755, and died November 27, 1847 in Shelburne, N.S. Canada. Notes for CHRISTIAN SWINBURG: The family tree of Christian Swinburg and Catherine Harpel shows that Christian was born in Hesse, Germany. Christian was born around 1750 making him a 15 year old boy at the outbreak of the American Revolution April19, 1775. His name appears on the Kassel Regiment, Langraf muster rolls in New York in 1783. The privateer ship called "Nelson" has record of a Christian Swinburg whose occupation is listed as Armorer. He remained in North America after the war and immigrated to Canada. Christian married Catherine Harpel in New York. Catherine was born about 1755 purportedly in Prussia and died November 27, 1847 in Shelburne, N.S. Christian was later captured by the French and taken to Trinidad as a POW. There were eleven children of this union. Children of CHRISTIAN SWINBURG and CATHERINE HARPEL are: JOHN CONRAD SWINBURG, b. Abt. 1787, Shelburne, N.S. GARRET OAKES SWINBURG1, b. Abt. 17791. SOPHIA SWINBURG (CHRISTENING DATE)1, b. October 16, 1787 GEORGE SWINBURG CHRISTIAN SWINBURG CATHERINE SWINBURG (CHRISTENED), b. June 26, 1796. ELIZABETH SWINBURG. MARY SWINBURG. SARAH SWINBURG. JANE SWINBURG. MARGARET SWINBURG. It is possible she remarried after Christian's death but I have no knowledge of this happening. /R Stephen Yongsan Garrison, Seoul, Republic Of Korea
