He and Vera did some bowling in Liverpool and though he was about 45 years older than me, I would occasionally have a chat with him. I think he also sharpened saw blades for people in his later years. This was taken from the local newspaper The Liverpool Advance, November 15,2000 Issue Joseph Edward Coombs, 81, died at home on Thursday Nov. 9,2000 in Milton, Queens County. Born in Milton, he was a son of the late James and Carrie (Godfrey) Coombs. He was a veteran of World War 2 serving in Sicily and Italy from 1941-1945. He worked as a millwright at Bowater for 36 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed rug making, wood working, hunting and the outdoors. He was an Honorary Deacon at the Milton United Baptist Church and a Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Mersey Branch #38, Liverpool. He is survived by his wife the former Vera Wolfe, at home; daughters Joyce Brodie of Moncton and Erna Corbell of Sooke,B.C.; sons Joseph of Port Alberni, Richard of Red Deer, Alberta, Charles of Mill Village; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters; Erna Legge of Windsor and Doris Morris of Halifax; brother Ernest of Milton.
