Rebecca Lovitt was a daughter of Andrew Lovitt, one of the first English settlers in Yarmouth County. They came here from Beverly, Mass. Andrew's wife was Lydia Thorndyke from the same place. I have not been able to find anything on John Mckinney. One of the Yarmouth County Histories says he was with the British Navy and came from Ireland. The Archives has him taking a land grant of 666 acres at Chegoggin, Yarmouth County in 1786, the same year he married Rebecca. Thats about all I have on Him. If you find something else, please let me know. I don't think they meant to change their names. I just think other people filled out documents for them and used their own interpretations. Usually names get changed through illiteracy. Bob.
