To all: To date I have not had any replies -- so am re-posting! ----------- Ever since I started Loyalist research, I have always had one leading question, which has yet to be answered:- "What was the name(s) of the ship or boat(s) which brought members of the 76th Regiment of Foot to Port Roseway/Shelburne where they landed Nov. 5, 1783". I have names of all, original grants of land and family data. The regiment was disbanded in New York City - with the bulk of the regiment coming to Shelburne. The official disbandment was later in England - then re-commissioned.. Some who had original land grants at Gunning Cove, then Port Joli, included Robert Innes(s), Peter Fisher, Donald MacKay, many others, plus my ancestor Finlay McIntosh. A list of passengers should contain names of wives and children, as some were born while regiment members were imprisoned in Virginia from 1781 to 1783. The above is my wish for 2003 -- the name of a ship or ships! Muriel M. My grandmother's first cousin Elsie Berriman was married to Andrew Vernon Lovett McNutt...known as Vern. They had several children and their last surviving son, Ronald passed away in March 2001. I believe Vernon might be Martin's grandson or great grandson. I'll have to check on that. Elsie and Vernon of course are deceased but they still have many grandchildren, great grandchildren in Queens County. Give me a few days and I'll get some stuff together for you.....Tim

To all:- As soon as Gordon and I receive details -- we will be "shouting" it from coast-to-coast-to-coast! I am counting the hours!! Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee --------------- Greetings All. I pass the following message on for the information of all those on the mail lists who have been helping in our campaign to regain public access to Post 1901 Census records. The message from Jeff, on behalf of Senator Milne, is definitely encouraging but I will not hold my breath until I see the actual proposed legislation. Rest assured that we will pass on any developments as soon as we are able. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. The Canada Census Committee has done a remarkable job ensuring that every Senator and MP knows all about the campaign to release the 1906 census. As you all know, the big breakthrough came on October 3 when Minister Boudria announced that the government would take action. Since then we've been awaiting the details. I can now tell you that the details are coming very soon. In fact, each of you should be keeping an eye out over the course of the next few days for a late Christmas present for Minister Allan Rock. A little bird has told me that he has a gift for each of you that is just a little bit bigger than you may be expecting. I'm looking forward to telling you all of the details. Thanks again for all of your hard work, and my particular thanks to Muriel Davidson and Gordon Watts --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Sincerely hope you are near a library which has FREEMAN FAMILIES OF NOVA SCOTIA. On Page 439, Vol I, we have the family of Simeon Freeman Brown (s.o. Hannah Freeman & Jacob Brown) mar. Elizabeth Harlow -- no data Eight children Hannah; Jacob; Malachi; Ellen; Richard;Letitia; Ada; Zorah Malachi is listed as married to Ida Rafuse If there was an initial M. - could have been Moore as suggested, possibly after a grandmother -- a naming habit. Three children: Leonard; Blanche Beatrice; Reginald Blanche Beatrice married Harold Maynard Hartlen of Halifax, NS Lots more -- but it seems your number of families has increased!! Also COULD there have been two marriages for Ida - Moore and Rafuse -- or born Ida Moore, married a Rafuse before Hartlen The book has been reprinted and CDs are also available. Muriel M. I shall check it out. The only Matthias I have at present is the son of Harrington McLeod (1785-1850), sixth son of John (1747-1825). The info comes from page 23, column 2, of the booklet "History of Brooklyn" by Lucius D Dexter in 1936. It is available from the Queens County Historical Society who printed it in 1996. It has quite a bit on the early families. The number for it is ISBN 1 -896972 - 01 - 2. Harrington had married Mary CROWELL and had three children; John, Matthais, and Sarah (m. Thomas DAY). I had found a reference that Matthais' wife's name was Catherine, but no dates, birth, marriage, or death. I was not sure if it was this Matthais as there may have been one in the next generation which I do not have. -- Rannie in Mt. Uniacke, N.S.
