To all:- Gordon is the Hansard reader -- or had notification from CPAC. In Ontario, on Rogers, I obtain CPAC on Channel 68. Find it now -- this is the Canada's Public Affairs Channel which will also be broadcasting the life of Rick Hansen. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee ===== SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM GORDON WATTS ===== Greetings all. While not originally shown on the House of Commons Projected Order of Business for the coming week, Bill S-13 now shows up on the schedule for Monday. There are two Bills at Report Stage scheduled before Bill S-13. It is possible that debate on those two Bills could take up all the available time and they will not get to S-13 but there is no certainty this will happen. Debate on the earlier scheduled Bills, C-46 and C-20, starts at 3:00 PM Ottawa time. The House normally adjourns at 6:30 PM so that leaves 3.5 hours available Monday for debate on all Bills on the schedule. There is currently 3 hours and 25 minutes left available for Second Reading debate for S-13. House proceedings are televised through CPAC on channel 396 for StarChoice satellite subscribers. Bell ExpressView and cable subscribers will have to check their listings to find what channels to watch. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. NOW I AM REALLY BACK!!!!! Yes, Wayne, what happened to the capitalized words and Mount Pleasant Cemetery? "What happened to COMMON SENSE, PERSPECTIVE and INTENT," I am copying in a young friend from Liverpool, Nova Scotia -- Tim MacDonald -- and his books should be copied in all research centres. Tim has taken photos of EVERY tombstone in Queens County cemeteries, all photos are 4 x 6, with history notes on the right side of the page. His shelves of books are at the Thomas H. Raddall Research Centre in Liverpool, NS -- and one does not have to go traipsing through cemeteries, as I have done -- Tim has done the pictorial work -- we can sit comfortably at a table and research. Should there not be a stone of some type -- Tim also includes the page with history -- years ago, some could not afford stones and therefore used large beach rocks -- only the master cemetery plan tells him where those people are buried. As for this idiotic law -- we do have an election in TORONTO -- ask the front-runners -- do not wait -- the time is now! Aren't you glad I am back with my griping!!! Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee ============= Here's a twist on this story. I can't understand why they would want to do it but perhaps the company, which also designs and carves monuments, is invoking its rights under the Copyright Act to control the use of the images placed on monuments. The privacy statement on their website makes no mention of a prohibition on photographing headstones, although the section dealing with monuments includes the following statement "We can show you countless approaches to design, walking with you through the cemetery or reviewing our extensive collection of photographs." Thus, it would appear that the prohibition on photographing monuments might be to protect their commercial interests in the monument design. Or, on the other hand it might be attributed to the zeal of the guard. The policy regarding the protection of the privacy of their clients is even more ridiculous when I can read the list of names of those buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, City of Toronto, York County, Ontario at <http://www.interment.net/data/canada/ontario/york/toronto/pleasant> Gordon in Ottawa
Hello Bob, Marcia and anyone interested in this family.... I am a descendant of Matthew Park. I have quite a complete family history of this family which was not only spelled Park, [that I believe to be the original spelling of the name out of Ireland] but also shows up as Parks, as well as Parkes, sometimes within the same family group. Bob..I have a Neil Harry Gillis married to a Anna Mary Augusta Park December 27th, 1899 in Cambridge MA. He appears to be the son of a Harry Gillis I have two sons for Neil and Anna Mary: Gordon and Kenneth. If you would please tell me what you are seeking I would be more than happy to share what I have with you. My great grandmother was Jennie Parks the daughter of Atwood Parks, son of William and Elizabeth Cohoon Parks of Port Medway, N.S. The Park family first settled in Petite Riviere and still have desendants in that area. You may reply on list if you wish, but if you would be kind enough to mail me separately I would appreciate it. I have great difficulty reading the ordinary type on the list and would ask you to write to me in bold. You don't need to increase the font size as long as the type is in bold print, but a "12" would certainly help! <G> Regards, Carol E. Taggart Windsor, Ontario c.tagg@sympatico.ca
