As well an any of the numerous genealogical societies, and the Archives located in Halifax, NS Info from web on Queens County Museum: "You will also discover exhibits on Forestry, Ship building, and Privateering and one that both adults and children alike love to come and see, our Railway Exhibit, representing the good old rail in the 1930's and 40's. Queens County history has been well recorded, thanks to men like Simeon Perkins (1734 - 1812) who kept an account of the cultural and economic events of the day. His diary is on permanent display here at the museum. We are easy to locate. Travel Nova Scotia's highway 103, to Liverpool's exit number 19. Turn right across from Tim Horton's coffee shop, and proceed to the Main Street intersection. Turn left and we are on the right approximately 1000 feet from the intersection. Main Street, Liverpool, Nova Scotia, (902) 354-4058" Within the museum is the Thomas H. Raddall Research Centre, "In 1929, Thomas Raddall was one of the founding members of the Queens County Historical Society. The renowned historian and author Dr. Thomas H. Raddall passed away in 1994. Following his death, his son Dr. Thomas Raddall Jr. made possible the building of an addition to the museum to house the Thomas Raddall Research Centre. Upon entering the centre, you will see an exact replica of the author's study, furnished with his possessions. The Thomas Raddall Research Centre provides researchers with access to numerous historical and genealogical records. The centre's resources continue to expand due to the efforts of individual researchers and a very active Family History Group. The fee to use the centre is $ 5.00 per day."

Happy New Year, List: The 1901 census transcription is coming along - there are now almost 1,600,000 names transcribed BUT there are still many to be done. There are 17 districts in Nova Scotia and so far only Annapolis, Hants, Kings and Lunenburg are completed. Why don't you check to see if your NS relative has been transcribed (http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html). Just click on "1901:" in the upper right hand corner of the page and follow the directions on the that page. AND...while you're there, why not sign up to help with the transcription? It's easy to do! And very rewarding! Sandi Bellefeuille, Mississauga, ON

Rebecca Lovitt was a daughter of Andrew Lovitt, one of the first English settlers in Yarmouth County. They came here from Beverly, Mass. Andrew's wife was Lydia Thorndyke from the same place. I have not been able to find anything on John Mckinney. One of the Yarmouth County Histories says he was with the British Navy and came from Ireland. The Archives has him taking a land grant of 666 acres at Chegoggin, Yarmouth County in 1786, the same year he married Rebecca. Thats about all I have on Him. If you find something else, please let me know. I don't think they meant to change their names. I just think other people filled out documents for them and used their own interpretations. Usually names get changed through illiteracy. Bob.

I already had the info on John and Elizabeth Cahoon, and John and Rebecca Lovett and all their children. I just can't seem to get back any further than that. I haven't been to Liverpool in a couple of years now - too busy with our Art Gallery. Did you ever find out why they changed their names to McKinnon and McKenna> I am a McKenna through marriage. My father-in-laws name is James William McKenna, born 1896. His father was John Leander Judson McKenna. Thanks for your help, Bob. P.S. Did you by any chance know my ex husband James Rene McKenna, who now lives in British Columbia?
