    1. [Queens] Post 1901 Census -- Finding your MP
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. Greetings All. In seeking to contact your MP to advise of our concerns re: regaining public access to Historic Census records the following URLs may be useful. Using these URLs, doing a search on your postal code will bring up a page for your Member of Parliament, including Parliamentary and Constituency addresses, complete with telephone and fax numbers, and occasionally additional email addresses. In most cases it includes a picture of your MP. http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/people/House/PostalCode.asp?lang=E en francais http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/people/House/PostalCode.asp?lang=F Simply click on one of these URLs. If they wrap to a second line, use copy and paste to insert it in the 'Address' window of your browser. Remember -- what we seek is the SAME, UNRESTRICTED access, 92 years after collection, to Census records after 1906 that we currently have for 240 years of records up to that time. We do not seek to GAIN something that has never been available -- we seek to REGAIN something that has been improperly (and believed illegally) taken away from us by the Chief Statistician of Canada. Parliament is in recess this week. Chances are good that you can catch your MP in his/her constituency office. Give it a try. Let me know of their support or otherwise -- particularly if it differs from the position shown on the Scoreboard of the Post 1901 Census Project website. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted.

    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. OOPS! Apologies for an error! Guess I typed too fast -- the FIRST settlement within sight of Port Mouton Island was 1603. However, settlers found the winter very severe -- therefore, they moved around the western tip of Nova Scotia to found Port Royal in 1604. Muriel M. Davidson === To all:- I am appalled to learn of the possible sale of Port Mouton Island and above all, for such an astronomical sum. The island has served many very well for several hundred years. The first settlement in Nova Scotia was in 1803, within sight of Port Mouton Island. Former residents are buried at Central Port Mouton but there are several small family graveyards on the island Read the following carefully: http://queenscountytimes.ca/portmoutonisland/portmoutonisland.html There are historical societies to preserve and keep old buildings. Other historical sites have been saved and frankly, I feel this is a disgrace to sell one of Nova Scotia's islands -- possibly for the erection of a summer retreat! The DOGGETT history began there -- it is recorded as such. However, it is the assistance given to fishermen over the years, the Port Mouton light=house was visible from the home where I was born. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HARVEY, JONES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DQC.2ACI/284 Message Board Post: I have a John W. Harvey born July 9, 1812 or 1816 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, died 10/16/1886 in Boston, MA; married Susan F. Jones(b. 3/7/1821 Liverpool, NS -d. 12/30/1899 Boston, MA) 5/24/1842; children: Gideon S.J.b 1848, Susan J.b before 1855(both born in NS), John W. Jr. b 5/16/1856 in Boston, MA d 1944; moved to Boston, MA in 1855; became a US citizen in 1860; moved to Brighton MA in 1868. I need to know more about John W. or Susan F. born in N. S. All I have is that John's father was from CT and his mother NS. possible links thru Richard Harvey b. 1719 in Lyme, CT who supposedly fought in the "French and English" War and MAY BE the same Richard Harvey listed on the Passenger List of the Baltimore that sailed to Halifax in 1749. However he is listed on the 'disapperances' list for 6 months later.(not even sure these are the same person.) I am missing only one generation---John W. Harvey or Susan F. Jones (from Liverpool N S) parents. Other possibility is more tenuous. Susan could possibly be the daughter of Mehitabel Chadsey Jones and Capt. Smith Jones, Liverpool, N S. John could be related thru the John and James Harvie brothers from Dalry, Scotland who settled in Newport, Hants, N S in 1763. But still missing that one generation! ANY info would be appreciated. thanks ahead of time. Ravyn
