All the Pletsches in the 1881 Canada Census are in Ontario and there are no entries for Wahlers. I doubt that there was any migration from Germany to Queens County Nova Scotia in 1868. I believe your name is Antoinette -- if not, my apologies!! It is very seldom I see MY Conrad family history in print. It does deviate at a certain point, but up to that, it is complete. As for the ancestor who was burned as a witch -- reports have been written she had severe marks (translated from German) but in those days, if one said "It will be sunny tomorrow" and the sun did shine, one could be accused of being a witch. Please reply personally -- as the information becomes very long. My line starts at Johann Peter Conrad who lived in Blueberry, now West Berlin, Queens County, Nova Scotia. I will also check to see what other data I have. Muriel M. I have an old web site that I created years ago that explains some on the Conrad name. http://modena.intergate.ca/personal/dconrad/ There are two lines of Conrads coming from Nova Scotia. The line of Matthais and the line of Jacob. I found one Polish line of Conrads here on the West Coast. I have one of six " Conrad Books" that have the detailed genealogy of those two Conrad lines. There is also a line of Conrads descending from the Pennsylvania Dutch. I also suggest starting your Conrad searches here. http://www.rootsweb.com/~canns/lunenburg/ Cheers Toni Dave

Hello Bill:- The ones I knew likely were children of the men you mentioned. One I knew was Jessie who married a Mr. Fraser, kept a boarding-house in Liverpool, NovaScotia. Her sister married a MacDonald and was the mother of my sister-in-law. Will check the site and I have also copied in a Joudrey researcher. This message may be forwarded in United States, etc. To all:- Earlier this year, Gordon Watts put together a NEW census petition to be signed and hopefully assist with release of the 1911 census records, scheduled for June 1, 2003. To date, I have received several of the OLD & ANCIENT ones -- which might not be accepted. Go to http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/ These are the ONLY census petitions which might be accepted. Also, DO NOT WRITE on a copy which does not have a place to write your name and where signatures were gathered -- one was received today. When Gordon and I receive the petitions, should a sticky note or a slip of paper not be included, we credit the first name on the petition -- basically for location. The end of this "sermon" -- use every opportunity to gather signatures!! If placing in a library, keep Page 1 at home, place Page 2 wherever you are able -- then attach Page 1 later. Page 2 may be double-sided. Family History Groups and branches of Ontario Genealogical Society are getting many signatures. There are many Non-Resident ones also coming in -- many from interesting places. The assistance of our many friends is deeply appreciated. At present there is NO census bill, but we are getting prepared as we "feel" there will be one in the fall. Also, do not worry if you send the Senate petitions to Gordon, or the House of Commons ones to me -- we like exchanging mail!! A weekend coming up -- more signatures -- teenagers accepted! Muriel M. Can anyone help me find out exactly where that was located.
Dear List: I'm new to the list today, and I confess, while I have been researching for about 15 years for my ancestors in America and England, I have little experience with research in Nova Scotia. I once wrote to the authorities in Halifax and they told me that very little exists in the way of official records. I was very new to genealogy then, but now I know that there are other ways to find details on folks. SO, I'm looking for information on my Verge family in Liverpool and Bridgewater. My 2xgreat grandfather was Joseph A. Verge (11 Oct 1835-bef 1895?) who married Ellen Johnson McGowan (Jan 1836- Aug 1903) in Bridgewater, NS in 1856. Many of their kids immigrated to the US and lived in NH, ME and MA. Does anyone connect to the Verge family? Joseph was probably the son of Joseph and Anna Verge of Liverpool. Joseph's father was also Joseph Verge, who married Abigail Doggett in 1779, Liverpool, NS. I have other details, but I don't want to clog up the list. If anyone can recommend a course of action for researching this family, please contact me. I'm love to hear from anyone, even with suggestions or hints! Any cousins out there? Thanks in Advance, Constance in Kentucky (ps no, I'm not a hillbilly)
