Hi, I am looking for some information on 2 sets of my g-g-grandparents. William Allen Verge was born Sept. 3, 1856 in Hunt's Point, or Caledonia, Queens County. He married Honora Powers (possibly Leonora/Lenora Power/Powell), I have been told, in Gloucester MA, before 1887. Their first child, Ambrose, was born there as well. Honora was born June 20 1866 in Ireland. Honora and Ambrose came to Canada from the states in 1887. I have also been told that William died in 1927, but I only know for sure that both William and Nora were alive as of the 1901 census. Lewis (Louis) Allen Smith was born Sept. 16, 1869 in Liverpool. He married Annie Maud McKinnon (McKenna?) in 1897. She was born Apr 2 1874 in NS. My grandfather Harry M Verge Jr was orphaned in 1934 (his father's death) - his mother died in 1929. At that time, he and his siblings were taken in by their Smith grandparents (Lewis and Annie), so they were alive for some years after 1934. I would like any information that might be available on these four, though at the moment, my specific questions are: 1) Where exactly was William born? 2) Where and when were William and Nora married? 3) Is it certain that Ambrose was William's son and not Nora's by a previous marriage? 4) Where and when did Willliam and Nora die? Where are they buried? 5) Where and when were Lewis and Annie married? 6) Who were Annie's parents? (She possibly had a brother Harry - A 13-year-old Harry Mckinnon was living with Lewis and Annie in 1901 as a boarder.) 7) Where and when did Lewis and Annie die? Where are they buried? Any help with these questions would be hugely appreciated - these are the biggest gaps in all of my info on all my g-g-grandparents! If no info is readily available, suggestions on where to research would be just as welcome - I don't have much experience tracking down info post-1901! Thank you! I am sorry to learn your gr.grandmother has passed away -- I knew the couple -- that is, Lester Smith. Did you know there is an Obituary nail list in Nova Scotia -- it might be able to give the obituary. If buried within Queens County, the Thomas H. Raddall Research Centre has a number of valuable books -- photos of tombstones taken by Tim MacDonald -- one of the first places of research for my personal searches. Also, I will check several other Down Home sites -- Muriel ----- Original Message ----- From: <tracylouiseko@yahoo.ca> To: <CAN-NS-QUEENS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 2:39 PM Subject: [Queens] unknown great great grandparents > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: JOUDREY/WHYNOT/SMITH/NOWE > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DQC.2ACI/301 > > Message Board Post: > > I'm wondering if anyone could help me out on information about my great grandmother. If any readers know of the constituency address of his or her Member of Parliament, please forward it -- the government sites might be slower than local localities. The Scoreboards include Newfoundland-Labrador, although their census is online up to 1945, becoming part of Canada in 1949. Muriel M. While it has take some time the MP Scoreboards on the Post 1901 Census Project website has been updated to reflect all newly elected MPs. All MPs now have Correspondence Logs in which to add letters to them, and responses regarding their position on public access of 92 year old Census records. Many of these have yet to have Constituency Office addresses added but this will be done as soon as I can find out what they are. It is an ongoing process. Please advise me of any errors that you may become aware of. Please copy me on letters sent to your MPs, and in particular any responses you might receive from them so that the Scoreboards and Correspondence Logs can be updated with their position. Census petitions have been coming in, although not in the quantities that we would like to see. We must show our parliamentary representatives that we still seek the same unrestricted public access to Census records after 1906 that we currently have for 240 years of records up to that time. If we wish to regain access to these records we must continue to work for it. Letters and emails expressing our concerns are important but we have no means of determining numbers sent. Petitions give us an opportunity to publicly show numbers of people seeking access to these vital records. Parliament is currently scheduled to resume on 4 October 2004. We would like to have a good number of signatures to present soon after Parliament resumes. Our NEW petitions were first posted on the Post 1901 Census Project Website on 22 April 2004. If you downloaded petitions before that date you are using our OLD petitions. Please make sure you are using the New ones -- they are different. Thank you all for your support. Happy Hunting. But he must be related to the Aubrey Coombs who married my great aunt, Mildred Hartlen. At least they have the same first name. Mildred Hartlen came to Manitoba with her sister Frances around 1914. Frances married Fred Morrow and are my grandparents. Mildred went back to N.S. and married Aubrey Coombs but they would come to visit us at the farm in Oakville, Mb. I'm too young to have known either of them. l have copies of all of my aunt's Coombs photos and they are only of Aubrey and Mildred and their daughter, Kathryn. Wish I could be of more help ! Good luck with your research. If I come across something I'll forward it to you. Kindest Regards, Lynn

Coombs and any other Coombs who lived in the Milton, NS area. Recently traveled to Milton and contacted Aubrey Coombs. He wasn't interested in talking to me. He said that we had no connection. It's hard to believe that we're not connected some way, I just can't find out how. I do know that my g-grandfather was a lumberman in Milton. They had 3 sons, (Stillman, Leon & Roland) all born in Milton, NS. If you have any information that might help, please contact. Thanks, Roland
