Diane: I believe that ALEXANDER D. GRANT, born 11 May 1869, to Alex GRANT and ANN MACDONALD is the same ALEXANDER D. GRANT shown on the 1881 and 1891 Census even though the dates are off by one year. Grant researchers Allan Robertson and Bill Dunbar relate this story of Alexander Grant: "From my 1867 Ambrose Church Map showing all the farms I think these Grants live at "Pleasant Valley" on old maps and I think it is Sunnybrae on modern maps. On the map there is an A. Grant store right at Pleasant Valley and just beyond the store are A. Grant D., R., and other A. Grant farms or houses. My 2nd great Grandfather William Fraser was a tailor at Island, East River, Pictou Co., and also had a sawmill and 1861 was at Messr. A. Grant's new fangled shingling machine at his sawmill at Springville and William was looking (and evidently more) at the new machine and 4 fingers were lying on the block before him. A sad tale and ended William's tailoring career. A cousin told me this story and then another friend ran across it in the 1861 newspaper article." This was submitted by Bill Dunbar of Montana. He also submitted this info: Alexander Grant appears on the 1881 Canada Census: New Glasgow, N.S., Can., p. 89, 382/443 or 95/58 Grant, Alexander.....M50, (1831) N.S., C Pres., Scotch, Merchant, Married Annie...........F38 (1843) Married Finlay...........M19 (1862) Printer Alexander.....M12 (1869) John.............M 8 (1873) Alice.............F20 (1861) English Servant Alexander Grant appears on the 1891 Census, New Glasgow, N.S., Canada: Grant, Alexander....(1830) N.S., Can Annie..........(1843) N.S., Can Alexander D.(1870) John W.......(1873) Clarence......(1883) Alexander Grant appears on the 1901 Census, Dist. 38 Pictou, N.S., P. 15:149/162: Grant, Alexander, m.W., Head Marr., 14 Jul 1829, 71, N.S.
