Born in Millsville, he was a son of the late Dr. Milton R. and Margaret (Fraser) Young. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1942. He entered private practice with his father in Pictou until joining the staff of the Department of Public Health at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville, in 1948. In 1957 he was appointed medical superintendent of Point Edward Hospital, Sydney. He returned to his practice in Pictou in 1960 and, at the time of his death, was medical director of the Extended Care Unit of Sutherland-Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Medical Society, the Canadian Medical Society and the American Thoracic Society; a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Internal Medicine. He was past president of the Pi! ctou County Medical Society, the Nova Scotia Society of Internal Medicine, the Atlantic Branch of Canadian Public Health Association and the Nova Scotia Cardiovascular Society. He was an elder in the Pictou United Church and past president of Pictou Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris MacKay; a daughter, Joan (Mrs Allan Maltby), Woodburn, Pictou County; two sons, Robert and Dr. Gordon, Pictou; 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Hildred and Pearl; two brothers, Lloyd and Dr. Fraser. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday (today) in Pictou United Church, Rev. Peter Stuart MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Sea View Cemetery, Pictou.
