VandeSande, 13, Clydesdale, Antigonish County, died Thursday at home. Born in Sydney, he was a son of Casey and Toosje (VanBerkel) VandeSande. He was a Grade 8 honor student at St. Andrew Junior High School, Antigonish. Very active in swimming competitions, he won the Nova Scotia age group championships for ages 10 and 12 and was ranked second in Canada at recent East Coast championships. He was named swimmer of the year for the Antigonish Aquanaut Swim Team. He was an altar server at St. Ninian's Cathedral and was an active 4-H club member. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Karen Michelle and Rachel Anne, and a brother, David Adrian, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Adrian and Johanna VanBerkel, West River. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Adrianus and Anna VandeSande. The remains will rest at Curry Brothers Funeral home, Antigo! nish, after 7 p.m. Saturday. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Ninian's Cathedral. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Kevin VandeSande Memorial Scholarship Fund.
