(Bill) Sutherland, 72, 166 Washington St., New Glasgow, died Thursday, May 19, at home. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late John William Henderson and Agnes (Fraser) Sutherland. He lived most of his life in New Glasgow, where he graduated from New Glasgow High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce and Law degrees at Dalhousie University. He served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was former general manager of The Evening News, New Glasgow, and was well-known in the newspaper business for many years. He served on various committees of the Canadian Daily Newspaper Publishers Association. He was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, where he had served on the Board of Stewards. He was also a member of the New Glasgow Gyro Club, the Royal William Yacht Club, where he had been a charter member, and later, the Pictou Yacht Club. He was also a membe! r of the Abercrombie Golf and Country Club where he was later named an honorary member. He was a keen yachtsman both in power and sail boats. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean MacDonald; a daughter, Brenda (Mrs Paul MacDonald), Roys Island, Pictou County; two sons, Dr. J. William H., Rochester, N.Y.; George H., New Glasgow; two brothers, J.R. Harry, New Glasgow; Dr. Donald F., Saint John, N.B.; three grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Jill. He was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine and Jean. Funeral was held Saturday, May 21 in Trinity United Church, Temperance Street, New Glasgow, Rev. Donald Murray officiating. Burial was in Lorne Street Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Aberdeen Hospital Foundation, or any charity. Posted for information only.
