Born in England, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Whitehouse) Wood. He lived in Stellarton most of his life and was a retired coal miner, having worked at both the Albion and McBain Collieries. He was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton, and a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army, North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Florence MacLean, are two sons, William Jr. of Westville; Victor, Stellarton; a daughter, Beth (Mrs. Donald Peers), of St. Catharines, Ont.; seven grandchidlren; three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Purvis, Stellarton. He was predeceased by two sons: Joseph and Bobby; two daughters: Norma and Sandra, in infancy; a sister, Florence Morrison, and a brother, John. The remains will rest at! the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, with visiting commencing after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The New Glasgow Evening News, Tuesday, January 20, 1987 - STELLARTON - Funeral service for the late William James Wood of 13 Coll Ave., Stellarton will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton.
