Purdue Olding – 54, of Merigomish died Sunday in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Merigomish he was the son of the Elsie (Hamblen) and the late William Daniel Olding. He was a member of Merigomish United Church and was in the trucking business for a number of years and more recently employed with Michelin Tire Company – Granton. He was a Second World War veteran serving overseas in the navy. He was a lifelong resident of Merigomish. Surviving besides his mother and wife, the former Mary Leaver are three daughters; Diane (Mrs. Frank Dewtie) – Broadway; Marion (Mrs. George Gould) – Berwick; Karen – Westville; son, Ronald – Pine Tree; two sisters Marion (Mrs. Douglas Morrison) – Lyon’s Brook; Aileen (Mrs. Wallace Western) – Ottawa; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father in 1957. The body is at the H.W. Ang! us Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Merigomish United Church Rev. Harold MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
