William Smith – 67, of Lower Barney’s River died at the Valley View Villa on Thursday. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was retired from the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Surviving are three daughters: Kay (Mrs. Frank Randt) – Dallas, Texas; Grace (Mrs. Gordon Blair) and Irene Smith both of Merigomish; a niece and five nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Allister and a sister, Jean. The body is at the home of his sister Irene. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Valley View Villa Activity Fund or any charity.
