Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Thomas and Blanch (Hardy) MacPhail. He had been a door-to-door salesman since 1936. He was employed with Fuller Brush Co. for 23 years and later worked for Watkins Co. for 25 years as distribution manager. He was a member of Kentville Salvation Army Corps, where he was treasurer for 33 years and outpost sergeant in Meadowview for 22 years. He was also master of ceremonies of Children's Bible Hour. He is survived by his wife, the former Nellie McMahon; a daughter, Betty (Mrs. Matthew Scholtz), Tillsonburg, Ont.; two stepsons, Arthur and Harold Lightfoot, both of Kentville; a sister, Elizabeth, Dartmouth; three brothers, Campbell, Colbrook; Keith, Dartmouth; Foster, Hebron; a foster daughter, Joan (Mrs. Norman Viviano), Troy, Mich.; 12 gran! dchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles; a grandchild. The remains are resting in W. C. Hiltz Funeral Home, Knetville. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kentville Salvation Army Citadel. Interment will be in Elm Grove cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to Salvation Army Kentville Memorial Fund.
