Born in West River Station, he was a son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Fraser) MacKenzie. He lived in Glengarry most of his life and was a member of St. Columba United Church. He was employed with Canadian National Railways for 40 years before retiring in 1971. He was a well-known fiddle player in Pictou County. He is survived by his wife, the former Agnes MacDonald; eight sons, Gerald and Jackie, both of Toronto; Stephen, Port Dover, Ont.; Thomas, Pictou; Hal, New Glasgow; Sandy and Dwayne, both of Glengarry; Shane, Lovat; five daughters: Lori (Mrs. Ronnie MacKenzie) and Marsha (Mrs. Dave Hoffman), both of Truro; Sherry (Mrs. Philip MacLean), Sunnybrae; Wendy (Mrs. Andy Ward), Churchville; Colleen (Mrs. Donald Bell), Eureka; 37 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola (Mrs. Albert Bryson), Truro.! He was predeceased by his first wife, Louella Fisher; a brother, Burt; five sisters: Maggie, Harriet, Gladys, Nettie and Hattie. The remains are resting at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Spring interment will be in Foxbrook Cemetery, Hopewell. Donations may be made to Nova Scotia Cancer Society or any charity.
