Born in Pleasant Valley, Pictou County, he was a son of the late John and Ruth (MacLean) MacLaren. He lived with his family in Nicomen Island, B.C. for a number of years, returning to Pictou County in 1945, where he was employed at the Drummond Coal Mine until its closure. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville. He is survived by two daughters, Helen (Mrs Henry Marshall), Hazel Glenn; Margaret (Mrs Donald Chittick), Dartmouth; two sons, Allister, at home; Gordon, Green Hill; two sisters, Seretta (Mrs Edgar Baker) and Lottie (Mrs Forbes Best), both of Westville; a brother, Johnny, Westville; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mysie MacMillan; a daughter, Ruth; two sisters, Elda and Lizzie; two brothers, Allie and George. Funeral service was held in Eagle! s Funeral Home, Westville, on Saturday, Rev. James Grant officiating. Burial was in Auburn Cemetery, Westville.
