Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Harry and Fannie (Russell) MacPherson. He was an express driver for Canadian National Railway and a member of First United Church, Trenton. He was a retired firefighter and a veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 34, New Glasgow. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ellen Hayman; a daughter, Judy (Mrs Douglas Chandler), Petawawa, Ont.; six stepdaughters, Margie (Mrs Howard Atwater), Linacy, Pictou County; Mary (Mrs John White), New Glasgow; Christine (Mrs Gordon McKay), Nelson, B.C.; Myrna (Mrs Vincent Turple), Caribou; Barbara (Mrs Fraser King), Egerton; Dianne (Mrs John MacGillivray), Lismore; two sons, Royce, Pictou Landing; Stewart, Trenton; five stepsons, Fred, Meaghers Grant, Halifax! County; Webb, New Glasgow; Hugh, Calgary; Victor, Ontario; Robert, Moncton; a sister, Jean (Mrs Less Richards), Trenton; eight grandchildren; 62 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret; a sister, Isabelle; a stepbrother, John. Funeral service was Monday, June 27 in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Rev. Alfred Woodworth officiating. Burial was in Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations may be made to Nova Scotia Lung Association or any charity.
