    1. [PICTOU-L] Nova Scotia & Maine Kennedy Families
    2. Has anyone found a relationship between the Kennedy's who were pioneers in Boothbay and Newcastle, Maine and the Kennedy's who were land grantees in Truro, Nova Scotia? Does anyone know their parentage or where they may have been prior to settling in Maine and Nova Scotia? Here are the details from several reference sources: Boothbay, Maine..."William Kennedy settled in Townsend [Boothbay], Maine 1751. He then had a wife and probably eight children. He evidently settled first at Sheepscot. His brother Samuel settled there in 1731, and another brother, James, was there before 1735. It is likely they all came in 1731, and then William moved to Townsend. He was a petitioner for incorporation of Boothbay." (Reference: Miller's History of Boothbay, Southport and Boothbay Harbor) Sheepscot, Maine...."Samuel Kennedy was of Scotch descent, came from Ireland and settled at Sheepscot about 1731." "James Kennedy came from Ireland and settled on the 'Great Neck' previous to 1835, m. Jane Hodge." "Deacon Thomas Kennedy, Sr., b about 1743 in North of Ireland, came to this country when eight years of age, m. Sarah Hodge of Edgecomb, 1775, resided at Pleasant Cove, afterward came to Newcastle, Maine." (Cushman's The History of Ancient Sheepscot and Newcastle) Truro, Nova Scotia..."William Kennedy was one of the first settlers of Truro, and a Grantee of the Township." (The reference does not list the date William came to Truro, but does describe his first house lot which he sold in 1768. "In 1776, he sold out in Pictou and returned to Truro." (Miller's Historical and Genealogical Record of the First Settlers of Colchester County). William is believed to have born abt. 1738 and m. Janet or Jannet (last name unknown). William's father's name may have been Joseph Kennedy. One interesting issue is that William's daughter Elizabeth, b in Truro in 1761 may have been baptized at the age of 7 in Newcastle, Maine. Why would the family have traveled to Newcastle, Maine for a baptism? Will appreciate any insight you may have. Carol Reed Kennedy St. Louis, MO
