Would anyone have a list of passengers that came on the Barque "Economist" in 1833 from Leith, 42 passengers? I am looking for the following ancestors: William, EMSLIE, Margaret Ross EMSLIE, Jane EMSLIE, George POPE William EMSLIE (b. 1787 Aberdeen) occupation tailor left Leith , Scotland 1833, age abt 46 yrs w/ his dau. Jane EMSLIE ( b. 1816 Edinburgh ) age abt 17 yrs. (Wife Margaret Ross EMSLIE may have died before Jane & Wm. left Scotland). Wm.'s naturalization intent (filed in 1834, Albany,NY) lists his port of embarkation as LEITH! They may have arrived in Pictou, NS or another location in Canada in 1833. A George POPE b. abt 1817 age abt 16 yrs. may have been on the same ship with them. They either were traveling together or met on the ship. (George's naturalization record in NYC & census records also state he came to NY in 1833. So far immigration records in US do not show them, very likely they came through Canada. Emslie may be spelled as Emsley or Enslie etc. I'd appreciate any help, comments or suggestions. Hi Cherylyn, I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but if any publication would have the Economist passenger list, it would be the following: "Passenger and Immigration Lists Index" A Guide to Published Records of More Than 3,049,000 Immigrants Who Came to the New World Between the Sixteenth and Mid-Twentieth Centuries. Edited by: P. William Filby and Frank V. Castronova Gale Research 645 Griswold St., Detroit MI 48226-4094 I hope you live close enough to a library that has it. There are too many volumes for an interlibrary loan.
