Born in Abercrombie, he was a son of the late Alexander and Jessie (Dunbar) Matheson. He lived in New Glasgow for the past 15 years, moving there from Stellarton, where he had lived for the previous 40 years. He worked for several years as a machinist at Pictou Shipyards. He was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton, where he was a member of the choir. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Betty (Mrs Edward Burrows), New Glasgow; two sisters, Mildred and Mrs Elliot Charlton, both of New Glasgow; two brothers, William, New Glasgow; Arthur, Rhode Island; two grandchildren; a great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret Barbara MacKay; two brothers, Albert and Fraser; three sisters, Christina, Elizabeth, Winnifred. Funeral ser! vice was held Sunday, Mar. 27 at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, Rev. Norman MacDougall officiating. Burial was in Abercrombie Cemetery.
