Born in Priestville, he was a son of the late James William and Maude Elizabeth (Patterson) Priest. He was employed with Eastern Woodworkers for more than 30 years, retiring in 1969. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during the Second World War. He was former past master of Prentice Boys LOL, No. 76, Thorburn. He also served as secretary treasurer of the Local 276 union for more than 20 years. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. He is survived by his wife, the former Ella MacDonald; five sons, Gordon, Greenwood, Pictou Co.; Hector, Priestville; Alvin, New Glasgow; Raymond, Greenspoint, Pictou Co.; Russell, Westville; four daughters, Charlotte (Mrs Ralph MacKeenan), Linacy, Pictou County; Jane (Mrs Doug Farrell), Fraser's Mountain, Pictou County; Vera Joyce, Westville; Michelle, ! at home; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Ena; a brother, Moses; a half-brother, Nelson. Funeral was Tuesday, June 7 in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, Rev. Evelyn Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to any charity.
