My great grandfather and his brothers were the proprieters of Torry's Book& Toy Store, and there was quite a collection of postcards that they published and photos in the family. These items were compiled into a rough draft for Dad's book, and I have a couple of items which may be related. Unfortunately the postcards and photos were all inadvertantly sold at auction when my mom died in 1995, but I still have the original draft with photocopies of the pictures! One picture shows the Adam C Bell Pharmacy (on Provost St), this area of town was referred to as Bell's corner. Adam Bell was the first mayor of the town after incorporation. Perhaps this is a relative? If you want a copy I can e-mail it. The only reference I could find to a "back street " firm was Muir Bros a dealer in hay & feed, and they were on Archimedes Street. Archimedes St could logically be considered the "back street" from Provost , which was the main"drag" so to speak. It also looks like the library is named after a "Flora" Bell. If anyone has postcards or anything from Torry's bookstore, or anything on the Torry family I would be most appreciative.
