The Crown Land Grant Maps of a few parts of Pictou County that I have show various original land grants as Lib 7, Lib 10, etc. The LDS lists Crown Land Grants for Nova Scotia as going from vol. 1-vol.138, covering the period 1763-1914, on 109 films in Salt Lake City starting from film number 1319803 which is apparently the land records for 1763-1783 (vol. 1) and1784 (vol. 2, A-B). My first question is how do I find Lib 7 and Lib 10? The dates for vol. 7 & 10 of the films are for 1784 but I think the Crown Land Grants I want to look at on Lib 7 and Lib 10 are more like around 1815-1820's. I am going to have a few days in Salt Lake City shortly and I want to look up certain crown land grants that I have seen on the crown land grant map peices that I have for Pictou County. My second question has to do with some references to crown land grants that were made in a book published in 1981 called "A Genealogical History of the family of Donald and Isabella SUTHERLAND of New Lairg, Nova Scotia. In the bibliography to this book, the author refers to the following: "Crown Land Grants. Land Grant Book C, pg. 88; Book E, p. 119. Book G, p. 56; Book IJ, pp. 11-12; Book M, p. 54; Book O, pp. 31, 36. Halifax: Public Archives of Nova Scotia, 1979." My 2nd question, then, is what are these books labeled with letters? I have not seen any crown land grants on my maps for Pictou County labeled by letters, such as Book A or Book O and they do not seem to be listed that way in the LDS online catalog. Can anyone tell what these books refer to? Would they be according to surname perhaps...such as all ROSS grants being in Book R?
