I had ancestors from Pictou who moved to Ont. in the mid 1800's. There is a Grant family history in the Ontario Archives written by Edward Banting (My late 2nd cousin) According to him Angus Grant, b. Glen Urquhart, Scot. who was a Cameron Highlander in 1795, moved to NS around 1800. He married Jane Cameron on June 1, 1818 in Glenmoriston, where purchased a home in 1857. Angus was born 1Jul 1773 and died 30Jun 1873 in West Merigomish. Jane died in 1862. Both are buried on their homestead. They had 10 children, one son, Alexander (ancestor) was a miller, apparently he learned the trade in NS. He married Sarah Squier UEL in Centreville, Albion Twp. Their third child was Margaret, who became the mother of Sir.Frederick Banting. Does any of this sound familiar?
