    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: CReedhead Surnames: McKay Sutherland Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.novascotia.pictou/5500/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for anything on David McKay, born about 1800 in Pictou according to various sources. He married Margaret Sutherland (b 1808 Scotland). Their first known child Hugh was born in 1831, with Joel in 1832, Margaret 1833 followed rapidly by 11 more, including Mary b 1849, and Alexander 1851, all in Pictou or possibly Cape Breton. There are however, more reference to Pictou than Cape Breton This family moved to Ontario in 1851/52 and were counted in the Huron County census of that time. I have managed to trace Joel from Ontario right to his death in Manitoba. How I wish for some more easy to follow names. Mary died in Algoma, but she was so secretive that she never told her true age on the censuses. She was my husband's great grandmother, marrying Thomas Robinson, several years her junior. I would like to find out more about David,b 1800. Did he have brothers, perhaps even one named Joel. Who were his parents? Margaret Sutherland is also on my unknown list with so many possible Margaret Sutherlands in the area. If any of these names are in your extended family, or if you have found baptisms or marriages for them, could you please let me know. Thanks in advance. (Nova Scotia Marriages, Pictou County) I'm pretty sure I had found the parents of Mary several years ago, but it looks like I didn't post the information in the Lists. I just checked the archives and didn't find it. In 1874* 5 CORKILL siblings arrived in Halifax as "British Home Children." The oldest was Mary Elizabeth CORKILL, b1860 in Liverpool, England. The 2 youngest were boys, John and Robert, arriving in Halifax at Ages 5 and 3. All 5 went to different families in different towns. John CORKILL was the one who had his first marriage in 1906 (as above). (Robert CORKILL / CORKHILL never married. He lived into his 60's living in different towns and last living as a servant for a family in Belleisle, NS.) FYI: Please know that this is: "2010, the Year of the British Home Child" and the "thousands" of descendants are trying to find ways to honor them and have events for them during this year.
