Hi: Still trying to find out the possible family tie to Rev. Waldo Emerson Murray born 26 Nov 1862 in Dedham Mass. Now believe his parents were Walter and Jane (Huggan) Murray and think they were from Avondale in Pictou County. There are Murray's and Huggan's on Barney's River and Merigomish. So far I can't find a Walter Murray in our family that quite fits and thought I'd post this in case there are any Huggan researchers that might have a clue. Waldo attended Pictou Academy 1882-83 and graduated from Thiel College in Pennsylvania in 1890. Mostly he was a Lutheran Minister in Rochester, New York but from 1906-1909 was at Mahone Bay parish, Nova Scotia. He died 22 Jan 1922 in Verona, New York leaving wife Clara (Diralla) and daughter Grace Murray. Thanks for any clues. Bill in Montana

Hello, Is there anyone who has access to the Pictou Advocate, there is an obit that is of interest to me, of my g.g. grandmother, the library in Pictou told me they don't have it on Microfilm but they found it in their index, it is located on Page 1, for Oct 29th, 1910, her name is Mrs. C Heighton or Corneilus Heighton, I would love if anyone can send me a copy or scan of the original. Patrick "paddy" left N.S. after getting a girl pregnate and that is my dead end. He had a nephew named after him which is where most trails lead to. I found a Patrick McGrath b.@ 1797 in Antigonish, to John and Sarah (Taylor)McGrath of Ireland. This is the best I could find and could be my trail I am looking for. Hi: Trying to determine the parents of a Waldo Emerson Murray. See him in 1871 census as an 8 yr old living with James W. and Margaret Murray at Barney's River. Suspect they are his grandparetns. He was at Pictou Acadamy in 1882-83 school year and by 1895 was a Lutheran Minister in Rochester, New York. He died January 22, 1922 in Verona, New York leaving wife Clara and 10 yr old daughter Grace. Thanks. Bill in Montana
Hi So, if a greatgrandfather and grandfather arrived some time after 1882, likely 1884, to Halifax from Glasgow, Scotland, do I take it that there would be an 'Immigration record" somewhere. If so could you possibly point me in the right direction? Brick wall hitting time. I need help with Mittie Graham. Had a child Leola ,born June 6 1918, who was given up for adoption. I have been told she may be Mary whose father was born in Pictou Co and may be a miner. April 1919 living in Sydney Mines. Mittie is obviously a nickname as I can find no record of her in CB. What might her real name be? Any ideas of help would be appreciated. Thanks
If the immigration was before 1865 and arriving in Canada, you won't find an immigration record. You *might* find a passenger list, but it's unlikely. :( On Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 10:39 PM, gc-gateway@rootsweb.com < gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: kshuller > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.novascotia.pictou/5498.1.2/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > ok then where do I find his immigration record? What denomination were they?? The Catholic church kept baptisimal and marriage records as did the Anglican, Lutheran and Presbyterian, However the Baptist church does not practice child baptism and did not keep particularly good records of marriages. Some ministers did, which is why in the archives you may find "Marriages performed by Rev_____" not "Marriages performed at _______Baptist Church". The record was the property of the Minister keeping it and moved when he did. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
