My great grandmother was called Margaret Ann (known as Maggie) Simpson. All I know is my g.grandfather went to Nova Scotia from England in 1884. She returned to England with him sometime before 1891 when their eldest daughter Rosina Mary was born. My grandfather was William Henry Cable and his father was John Cable and they lived in a village in Dorset. All I know about Maggie is that she had a brother called George. Do you know if this is the same family? Regards Sue Cable Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi All, I have recently spent some time updating the Nova Scotia Census Records part of my site. I have had many comments from you, the users, as to how to improve things. The three major things that have been done to the site are: 1. I added a search engine that will specifically search the census records. This search engine is not to be confused with the search function that searches the family tree database. On every census page, you will now find a search box. Simply enter the name, year of census, and location if you know it, and click search. Enter as much or as little information as you wish. A results page will open, and just like Google, the results nearest to the top are most likely the ones you are looking for. Clicking on the resulting link will take you to the appropriate census page, with the correct tab for the area already in view. You can then use the edit & find feature of your browser to search further. (Or use CTRL & F on a PC, CMD & F on a MAC). 2. On each census page, there is now a floating link that always stays with you at the bottom of the page that you can click to print that particular census. When you click it, a new window will open, with just that census on the page, and your printer dialog box will open allowing you to print the page. This feature was requested to make it easier to print when the pages are really long. 3. I have moved all the census records to a new area of the site, but the original link will still work to access them. The link is: http://www.dwaynemeisner.com/censusnovascotia.php I would appreciate your feedback on these new features, and I hope it makes your use of the census records easier. Also, please let me know if you find any glaring errors. I have attempted to make things as bug free as possible, but inevitably, I am sure I missed a thing or two... Dwayne www.dwaynemeisner.com

Sorry, I meant to send the Census business to Dwayne Misner. Charlotte
1851 census--District 1 town of Pictou (12 Mines). Alexander (Alexr.) Hayman 2M-1F (20-30) 1 M (30-40), 1 M-1F (above 50), 2 married, occupation not given, Religion: 5 Kirk of Scotland, No. in school 0. In the census of 1881 in MacLellan's Mts. we have some of the family and in Little Harbour, we have more of the family. In 1871 Middle River 2-58-62 (April 12) we have the family and in Middle River 2-59-63 (April 12) we have more of the family and in Little Harbour 1-94-96 (April 17) we have family as well. In 1881 we have them in Albion Mines. Have not written down the district. We also have part of the family in MacLellan's Mountain. There is so much I have not written it down. However, the district might help you but don't worry about the Haymans not being included. They are in the census in the Archives. Is this a descendant of Matthew Dwyer? Married at Victoria, BC, Sep 24, 1872, James Dwyer to Miss Salina Jane Hayes. Nov 2, 1872 - Dispatch from San Juan Island, Washington Territory, announces the murder of William Fuller, a settler, formerly of Victoria, BC, in a most shocking manner. Fuller was an Englishman and a house joiner. In 1861 he built Cary Castle for late George Hunter Cary. In 1868 he is said to have had a difficulty with the Indians at San Juan, during which he killed several, and many here believe that his life has been taken by Indians to avenge those killed by him. Nov 12 - Captain Dwyer, of schooner Mystery, reports the murderers (Indians) of late Mr Fuller, were caught at Bellingham Bay by American soldiers. * May 17, 1873, 3 - Murder of Captain James Dwyer and wife Salina, n/o Pictou, NS, at San Juan Island, Washington Territory, US. May 18, 3 - Shocking Murder; May 20, 3 - Burial of the Victims [at Ross Bay cemetery, Victoria, BC]; Jun 10, 3 - Police Court; Jun 17, Confession of "Joe'; Jun 18, 3 - Police Court - Dwyer Murder; Jun 25, 3 - Police Court; Jul 16, 3 - Police Court; Jul 24, 3... [G 058 W 13 - BURIAL PLOT] * Sep 5, 1873 - Sheriff Billings of Thurston Co WT, is authorized to receive Kanaka Joe, murderer of Harry Dwyer and his wife. The Sheriff will arrive on next steamer. * Murder/extradition of "Joe" soon, Oct 25, 1873, 3; Oct 29, 3 - Joe - extradited... [Dwyer murder] * Murder/Nov 20, 1873 - Kanaka Joe, charged with the murder of the Dwyer family, will be tried next week. The Territorial Legislature have passed a Bill for the costs connected with the case here - some $700 we believe. * Jan, 1874 - Reward. In the matter of the reward of $500 offered by the OddFellows for the arrest and conviction of the murderer of Capt Dwyer and wife, the arbitrators have made the following award: T G Murphy, $85; J McCoy (of San Juan), $50; R McMillan, $365. Mr Murphy objects to the award and threatens suit. * -----Original Message----- From: can-ns-pictou-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ns-pictou-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of can-ns-pictou-request@rootsweb.com Sent: September 20, 2010 12:01 AM To: can-ns-pictou@rootsweb.com Subject: CAN-NS-PICTOU Digest, Vol 5, Issue 126 Today's Topics: 1.
