Hi Bessie... I'm looking at the Bond...and it raises a few questions. You say his first wife died in 1864, but the bond says he's already a widower in 1863. And where did you get their marriage date of 1866? There should be a marriage listed for that year. Most bonds only predate a marriage by a month or two, maybe a bit more, but not by much. I know I'm no help asking more questions than can be answered on the bond...LOL. As for the other bondsman on the bond...it could be either her father or her brother, and we'll probably never know. I did find a death certificate for a Margaret Jane Muir who died Nov 10 1928 on Stellarton Road, New Glasgow! She was 80, born in November 1848 in Stellarton. Her father was Samuel McPherson of Scotland, and her mother a "Grant" from Scotland. And her son "Samuel" reported her death. She is supposed to be buried at Riverside Cemetery. Year 1928, Book 128, page 881. I went to the 1881 Cdn Census...and yes there were 8 children, but also figured the oldest 3 were from John's first marriage. I went to the 1901, and there were 4 more children...making it 9 kids they had. Hope I've been some help. John and William were brothers from Ireland. John or William is Patrick's father - I think John, and he did live in the McGrath's Mountain area. Patrick "left Town" after he got a girl pregnant (my gr.gr...grandmother) so if Sarah is his mother and from New Hampshire, possible Patrick did go there but years ago I found a Patrick McGrath in N.B. I do have a map of Pictou County from 1867 and the land in McGraths Mtn is "deeded' the McGraths. There are still people in the area with the name, but some of the McGrath's became joined to some Campbells and because there were not alot of legitmate unions, they don't like to talk about it. As far as a buriel place for the McGrath's of that time, because they were Catholic in a largely Prodestant Community, the closest cemetary would be St.Andrew's Cemetary in Egerton, St. Mary's in Lismore or possible St. Anne's in Thorburn. The Mountain which used to be home to these people is practically vacant now - just woodland. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did have the 1900 and 1920, but the 1870 had eluded me, despite my looking for it directly since I knew their son had been born in PA. Your tips opened up all kinds of additional information - getting me all the way back to her parents marriage in Scotland. Prior to that it gets harder to verify - lots of John Robertson's in Scotland! I did find that he died in 1850 in NS, but I don't know what happened to her mother after he died and Rosann went to the US. Thanks again!
