James McCulloch married Mary Simpson in West River, Nova Scotia about 1829. They took up residence in Westchester, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia at the time of their marriage. I am still trying to puzzle out the West River connection. To date, I have not found Charles McCulloch in my research. I wonder if anyone would be able to suggest books with cemetery transcriptions for Pictou County. Kindest regards, Lori

    1. [PICTOU-L] Mary Heighton // River John // early 1800's
    2. R.W. Rick Redmond
    3. Many folks know that I have been searching for an elusive Mary Heighton that married my ggg-Grandfather Samuel Redmond, sometime about 1840. I have never found out who's daughter she was, yet Family Bibles says she was Mary Heighton of River John/Cape John. My Samuel b. 1809 in County Antrim, Ireland arrived with his family in 1818. Now the question I pose is; Is it possible that Mary Heighton had been previously married and that Heighton was her 1st married name?? I have asked this before and no one believed so. A new angle has come up for me. Is it possible this Mary Heighton is actually Mary/Marie Maillard the wife of the 1st Heighton, Henry Heighton, in Nova Scotia?? Here are the vital statistics; Henry Heighton b. bef. 1760, d. 1815, m. abt. 1793 Mary/Marie Maillard b. abt 1776, d. abt. 1856 Samuel Redmond b. 1809, d. unknown Mary Heighton b. unknown, d. unknown I know this may be grasping at straws, but I am running out of ideas on finding this elusive lady. I would sure appreciate any insights on the forgoing idea. Thanks. Regards, R.W. Rick Redmond Chester, UK (formerly of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) rredmond@btopenworld.com

    1. [PICTOU-L] GORDON
    2. I a certain that there are others of you who have had no replies to your postings or requests for lookups in Pictou. Having failed at finding help, what was your next step? I remain quite convinced that William GORDON was born Sept 27, 1828 in Pictou to Alexander Gordon and wife Margaret. I suppose it is possible that the Gordons only lived in Pictou a short time, but believe several of their other children (Janet, John, Eliza, Simeon, Annie Belle) may also have been born there. I also know that William left Pictou at age 16. I am seeking info on who his parents actually were and any info regarding their lives or the time they spent in Pictou. Wish I could afford to come do the research myself, but its a long way from Texas. Would love for someone to respond or help me with this lookup. Many thanks. Sharon L. 1. [PICTOU-L] Forward E-mail to Thibault -- Any More I can do?
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. Dear Muriel, I am grateful for all your work. Is there anything else I can do? I am enclosing an email I just sent to Thibault. You have my permission to use this in any other way to further the cause. Thanks from the Colonies, Peter Fraser Dear Mr. Thibault, I write to you urging your support and vote in favor of Bill S-12. I live in Calif. USA. I traced my Nova Scotia roots through my and other's efforts with use of Canadian Census Data. As it turns out my two Fraser lines and MacDonald lines all immigrated and lived in Nova Scotia until 1902 when my grandfather, Archibald Simon Fraser left for the States. Without the Census and other public data I would not have found out that my g-grandfather Angus Fraser donated the lands for St. Joseph's Parish in Antigonish and that Angus's oldest brother was Bishop William Fraser, Vicar Apostolic of Nova Scotia and Bishop of Arichat and who interred under the high altar at St. Ninian's Cathedral. Without this available information I would not have had impetus to travel to Nova Scotia this past summer - the first of my family to travel back to our Nova Scotia Roots in over 100 years. Notwithstanding the pride I have in my Canadian and Nova Scotia Roots, I can only add that I spent a week in Antigonish and Pictou Counties as do many, many others who travel back each year. Our collective travels help sustain tourism as well as our family heritage. As a representative of Nova Scotia I hope that you will come to understand the importance of keeping open the lifeline of our heritage - information contained in census records. As Minister of Fisheries and Oceans you might be interested to know that Bishop William's and my gg-grandfather Angus's brother, Alexander Fraser was a Master Mariner and Sea Captain, lost at sea off the Coast of Ireland while conducting Nova Scotia trade. Please vote for Bill S-12 and urge others to do so also. In the US we have Census Data available from the 1920 Census and the 1930 Census will be avialable very soon. Sincerely, A proud descendant of Nova Scotia and Canada, Peter Duncan Fraser FraserGate@aol.com

    2. Richard MacNeil
    3. Hi folks, I'm forwarding this to the list for Muriel Davidson who is having a terrrible time along with all other Rogers@home subscribers. Cheers, Rick p.s. Muriel I've just resubscribed you.... let's see how long it lasts! To all researchers of Nova Scotian records:- Many across Canada, and from beyond Canada's borders are working very hard to obtain the release of the 1911 census records by 2003 -- the year it was supposed to be released. I am a native Nova Scotian -- my research is in these records, and am working very hard on behalf of many. Senator Lorna Milne has Bill S-12 almost ready for voting, but the ones in Ottawa need PROOF -- proof that we want the census released so we can get our family research done. The only PROOF "they" accept are signatures on petitions. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm We need both House of Commons and Senate petitions. At present, all Nova Scotian Members of Parliament are supportive of census release, except one - Robert Thibault. You may write to him Thibault.R@parl.gc.ca The Hon. Robert Thibault is Fisheries & Oceans Minister. Let's work together and get the 1911 census released in 2003. Muriel M.
