My mother in law is now 76 and not in the best of health. Obviously if we had shown some interest in this search 20 or 25 years ago, it would have been a lot easier. She has some problems remembering details, and as you know these searches are all about the little details. My father in law could have been some help but he passed away from cancer in 1984. Tom

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WOC.2ACE/3006.1.1 Message Board Post: Mary, I have not done a great deal of work on this family. I was interested in John J. Hoare who was supposed to have been born in the US in 1863 but returned to the Pictou County area and married Bessie Thompson. One of their sons Robert O'Mullen Hoare married Anna Mortimer Thompson of the line that I am searching. I have John J. Hoare as a son of John Hoare b. 1834 who was listed as a butcher from England in the 1871 census. He was married to Ann? (also from England) and they had three other sons; James 13, Charles 4, and Thomas 2. They were the only family with this surname listed in the 1871 census. The children were all born in the United States according to the census information. I don't have any subsequent census details though. I'm afraid that I don't have much additional information to that. If you need me to look some details up I can try on the weekends possibly. I hope that this is of some help. I have not been able to connect Greg Hoare into my tree yet. I've been doing the obituary work to try and create the links. Thanks, David

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WOC.2ACE/2976.1.1 Message Board Post: David, I appreciate the info on Carl Roy. It matches up with what I have been able to find. I'll give you the whole story and see if you have any more information. My mother in law was raised as an orphan in New Glasgow. The family she was raised by gave her the name of Eleanor Violet Hale. We just recently came up with a copy of her birth certificate. It lists her actual name as Margaret MacKay. She was born in 1926 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Her birth parents are identifed as Carl Roy of Merigomish and Christine A. MacKay of New Glasgow. I am pretty sure that the Carl Roy in my messages is her father. I am trying to track down any information I can about her birth mother (Christine A. MacKay) and piece together the reasons she was adopted out and given a new name. I can find no evidence that Carl Roy was ever married. He moved to Philadelphia at some point and died in 1963 in Pennsylvania. I have requested a copy of his social security records that will hopefully answer a few m! ore questions. Any information that is available about a Christine A. MacKay of New Glasgow would be greatly appreciated. Tom

    3. Hi Ruth: I recently asked a similar question on the N.B. list, and here is one response that may help explain, I'm sorry I didn't copy the source. 5) - "Kill McColl" is likely a misprint for "Kirk-McColl", which is the name of the United Church in St. Stephen.N.B. "Kirk" refers to the Scottish/Presbyterian origins of the congregation, and "McColl" refers to the Methodist origins; the Methodist movement in Charlotte County and St. Stephen was founded by Rev. Duncan M'Coll.
