Doug Sinnis provided about 500 obituaries for recent interments in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens about a year ago and I posted these to the Board....... However, I've just found some additional information on Gordon Cunningham's father, George, in the Edwin Bliss document, History of Eureka and Ferrona. Apparently George was born in Halifax about 1891, was twice married, and lived in Eureka, Pictou County, before moving to Ontario in the 1940s. Unfortunately, the document doesn't mention George's parents or siblings at all. At least you now know you might find additional information in the Halifax area. Good luck! Rick MacNeil

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WOC.2ACE/2976.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Tom, My apologies for the delayed response. I had left the idea with my grandmother so that she could try and circulate the concept with a few of her friends. Unfortunately, I don't have any more answers for you. My grandmother only remembers the boys Edward and Frederick Arnold. I suspect that James Carl had already moved away. My grandmother grew up in Moncton and came to Pictou Co. when she was about 17 in the 1930s. She couldn't think of anyone else that might know. The thing is that MacKay is not a common name in their neck of the woods. I'm thinking that she might have been from closer to New Glasgow in Thorburn or Linacy. Did it give Christine's age on the birth certificate? I could try and do some searching for you with that information to find likely candidates. I have access to a fair bit of census information and I could probably take a look in the next week or so. That is if she was born prior to the 1901 census. It's much more difficult otherwise because you would have to try and obtain a birth certificate first. Let me know. Again, my apologies for the long delay. David

It is a lot of work putting them all together. If you know of a way to do that I'd be more than happy to oblige. Otherwise, I'll have to start putting them on that site separately as well. Is there a webpage master that I might write to about this? All the surnames that I'm interested in principally come from the eastern portion of Pictou Co. around the Merigomish, Piedmont, and Barney's River areas. My chief surnames will be in that section of this message. I hope that this helps. David

I am trying to find birth information for my gggrandmother, Maria Smith, who, according to her headstone and death certificate, was born in Nova Scotia on 23 September 1826, the daughter of Alexander Smith and Sara Black, emigrants from Edinburgh, Scotland where her older brothers and sister were born. I would be most grateful if anyone with access to birth records could confirm her birth. I would also like to know whether her parents remained in Nova Scotia while the rest of the family eventually came to Geelong, a town about 50 miles south west of Melbourne, Australia. Many thanks Sue Wragg
