He was from Perthshire Scotland we think, born c. 1752, and fought for the British in The American Revolutionary War. When his unit demustered in 1784, he took a land grant in Pictou. About 1818 he and some of his family moved to the Lake Ainslie area of Cape Breton. One of his daughters married Alexander Hattie. His wife's name was Isabella Morris MacDonald. 1. [PICTOU-L] Post 1901 Census - Confirmation of MPs support
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all -- The following message from Gordon Watts is very important -- IF your MP or Senator has not denoted support of release of census records. Should any reader follow Gordon's example, please let us know. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca ------------------------------------------- Greetings All. I have just returned home from a town hall meeting held by my MP, James Moore. During his question period I asked for and received confirmation of his support for access to Historic Census Records. This is but one means by which we can find out our MPs position on access while Parliament is in summer recess. Another is to make an appointment with them and meet with them at their constituency office. Check the Scoreboard for their position before making an appointment so that you know what to ask them. He mentioned one thing that I have hopes he was in error. Parliament is due to resume sitting in September. Mr. Moore said there is a rumour that Chretien may delay resumption until some time in October when the Queen is due to visit Canada, so that she could give the Speech from the Throne. Happy Hunting. 1. [PICTOU-L] Elgin Cemetery-Pictou
    2. Frank and I just got back from Nova Scotia. It was quite an experience. Beautiful country. I went into Riverton Cemetery. My John Falconer in Riverton Cemetery was born 1796 was married to Isabella Fraser. I am tracing the parents of John Falconer and Isabella. There is an Alexander Falkner (different spelling) listed in A DICTIONARY OF SCOTTISH EMIGRANTS TO CANADA BEFORE CONFEDERATION. CA 1752-24 JUL 1812 Poss from Inv. to Pictou Co NS bur Old Elgin. (Is there another cemetery besides Elgin cemetery?) . Elgin Cemetery is not in the Stone Book records. (Would anyone have a listing?) Stopped in a local store and a resident who lived near the cemetery showed us the way. It is on the street behind St. Columba's. This cemetery was established in 1799 and is situated in the woods. There were car tracks going into the cemetery and it looked as if someone had been tending to it lately. Walked the cemetery but found no Alexander Falkner. There were stones with no names. I also saw a Hugh Fraser who immigrated in 1801 and lived until his 80th year. Could not read the entire tombstone. In A DICTIONARY OF SCOTTISH EMIGRANTS TO CANADA BEFORE CONFEDERATION there is a Hugh Fraser 1761-1841 from Aird, INV to Pictou Co 1801 settled West Branch Lake, East River Farmer and carpenter children Mary Alexander Hugh James Isabella Does this look familiar to anyone? Hugh has been either a first or middle name in our family for 4 generations. Ruth Falconer Fox - TN
