    3. Hi Marsha, Thanks for doing the Pictou County 1901 census lookups. Pass some along to me if you are overwhelmed and I will do them tomorrow night after work. Hopefully the community will be stated in the requests you send<g>! People are practically impossible to find otherwise. 3. Hi folks.....just to let you know I'm getting many requests for look-ups, which I certainly don't mind! But if folks could keep in mind that the book is set up rather poorly.....in 51 separate "communities", then in alpha. If you can be as specific about location, or give me clues to what locations your people might have been living in, or moved from, it would help me make quicker searches. I DO wish it had been set up more like the 1871 Census, but I'm grateful to have it at all! Marsha.

    2. Richard MacNeil
    3. Hi folks, I've just added Valerie Dingwall Barrett to the Researcher's Surname Registry. She is researching the Johnston surname related to the following family: "William,John, James and Margaret Johnston came from Coatbridge Scotland to Albion Mines (Stellarton) in the early 1800's. Margaret eventually married Samuel Richardson of Cape Breton and was my paternal great grandmother." If you have any information to provide, please contact Valerie at Valerie Dingwall Barrett <mailto:rossbarrett@ns.sympatico.ca>. Good luck! Rick MacNeil

    1. Re: [PICTOU-L] Irving family, Mt. Thom
    2. Richard MacNeil
    3. Hi Linda, The 1881 census shows only one Alex Irving, a 28 year old bachelor farmer living with a Rachel, aged 70 and a widow, as well as Christy A., aged 29. This Alex does not show up in the 1891 census. The William Irving, aged 47, farmer married to Christy, 37 in the 1881 census is dead before 1891 as Christy is listed as a widow. I see a Jane Irving, aged 67, widow living at the home of Christopher and Christie Irving in 1881. Perhaps she or her husband left a will at the deeds office in Pictou, or perhaps there are letters of administration. These documents may list all the children and establish the link you are looking for. Sorry I cannot look that up for you as I don't live in Pictou. 3. The closest name I could find to Mealey was Mellie and it listed a Margaret Mellie, widow, born 23 Sep. 1851 and her son Alexander, born Aug. 7 1884. She ran a boarding house and the census lists 12 boarders with various surnames. It also has her sister, Libby Campbell. This was shown in the census for New Glasgow # 3 Regards, Doug. 2. Hello, I'm new to the list. Does anyone know of the children of John Grant Irving who is mentioned in "The History of Pictou County, Part 3"? This history focuses on one son named William. I am seeking an Alexander Irving who married Mary Ann ____. I think William and Alexander are brothers. Mary Ann ______ was born in Taunton, Massachusetts. Alexander and Mary eventually settled in the Cedar Rapids area of Iowa. The 1900 U.S. Census shows Alexander as "carriage maker" as does the 1871 Mt. Thom, Pictou Co., N.S. census. I believe these Alexanders to be the same person. Any help would be appreciated. Linda
