    3. The Chronicle Herald, Friday, 1 December 1978 GOLDBORO - Vernon Wilfred Sponagle, 81, of Goldboro, died Thursday at home. Born in Goldboro, he was a son of the late Albert and Susan (Bruce) Sponagle. He was a veteran of the First World War and a member of Torbay Branch No. 157 Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel Marion Kaiser; five sons, Frank, Truro; Raymond; Ottawa; Wilfred, Country Harbour; Harvey and Purvis, both of Goldboro; three daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Fred McQuillan), Ottawa; Juanita (Mrs. Robert Shaw), and Marion (Mrs. John MacLellan), both of Goldboro; three sisters, Gertrude (Mrs. John O'Donnell), Eva (Mrs. Thomas O'Donnell) and Margaret (Mrs. John Small), all of Glace Bay; two brothers, Enos, Glace Bay; Reuben, Toronto; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Alice and Mildred, a son Wilfred, two brothers Robert and Lloyd. The body is at Goldboro Baptist Church, where funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m., Rev. J. Tonks officiating. Burial will be in Bayview cemetery.
