Vera Viola Currie 2001 Halifax Chronicle Herald Vera Viola Currie, 82, Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, formerly of Hebbville and Bridgewater, died after succumbing to cancer, on Friday, October 12, 2001. Born at River Hebert, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late George and Laura (Murphy) DeWitt. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Harvey; grandson, Douglas Currie, Resolute Bay; sisters, Gladys, Neta, Helen; brother, Earl, River Hebert; brother, Cecil, Boston. Vera is survived by son, Merrill (Sherlene), Tofield, Alberta; daughters, Marilyn Reid, Woodstock, Ontario; Donna, Bridgewater; Lynne, Bridgewater; Kathy (Greg) Varner, Lower Branch; sister, Lyall (Allison) Wolfe, River Hebert; sister-in-law, Evon Dukeshire, New Minas; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several niecces and nephews. Vera was a retired teacher, having taught in the Lunenburg County area for most of her career. From the one room school houses to the modern consolidated schools, she loved to teach and would remember her students and often told wonderful stories of these experiences. She held the position of principal and also enjoyed teaching children with learning difficulties. She had a love for stock car racing when her family was young enough to remember watching her at the track. She taught school in Jamaica, played an active role in forming and is an honourary member of the local SPCA, was a member of the South Shore Kennel Club, had worked at the local food bank and long-time member of the Bridgewater Baptist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in SWeeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Rev. Penny Klepic officiating. A private family burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. A reception will follow in the church. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the local SPCA or a charity of choice.
