Paul Edward Huey 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald Paul Edward Huey, 90, Baker Settlement, passed away quietly in the company of friends in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on August 26, 2005, the day after his 90th. birthday. Born at Baker Settlement, he was a son of the late James Knox and Jenneth Huey (Beck). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by siblings, Grace, Pearl, Kenneth, Lawson, Josephine, and Alma. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Andrews and her son, Ben. At the age of 12, Paul moved from home with his sister Grace and her husband, Howard Veinot, to Gloucester, Mass., where he attended school and worked in a bowling alley in the evenings. Years later, he returned to the family homestead in Baker Settlement, where he resided until October, 2003, when he went to live at Magdalen and Jack Skinner's boarding home in Upper Branch. Paul's working years were spent in the woods, raising cattle, pigs, and hens , and farming the land he loved so well. Although he never married, he shared his home with others and liked company, but was also a solitary man who enjoyed time alone. As the years passed and he was no longer able to work full-time, he continued to cut his own firewood, garden, and tend to the land as long as he was able. In his later years, he had to physically slow down but that never stopped his quiet and steady love of nature from the changes of every season to the smallest activity of a deer or a rabbit. Throughout his life, he shared his gratitude for each day lived, his acceptance of others, his quiet faith, and his sense of humour. We are better epople for having had him in our lives and we are all dimished by his departure. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, both in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Pastor James Haughn officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
