Eva Barnes 1906-1992 Bridgewater Bulletin The commuities of New Canada and Riverport were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Eva Barnes on October 12, 1992, at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Although in declining health for several years, her passing came as a great shock to family and friends. She was born at New Canada, July 12, 1906, the daughter of the late Alfred and Eliza (Nettie) (Hirtle) Lyon. She is survived by her husband, George; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Seamone, Stanley Section; and Mrs. Melba Henley, Martin's Brook; and one brother, Ernest, Port Medway. She was predeceased by a son in infancy; one sister, Flossie; and five brothers, Ford, Phinney, Milton, Alfred, and Merton in infancy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. As a young girl she moved to Boston and worked for many years, moving back to Nova Scotia to retire quite some years ago. She was a very kind and loving person to everyone who knew her and will be gretaly missed by family and friends both in Nova Scotia and the United States. Funeral service was held Thursday morning, October 16, 1992, from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater where she attended regularly as long as health permitted. Father Joseph MacKinnon officiated at the service. Funeral service was under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery, New Canada.
