Captain W. Lawrence Allen 1984 Captian W. Lawrence Allen, 87, of 267 Pelham Street, Lunenburg, died Tuesday in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital. Born at Blue Rocks, he was a son of the late Arthur and Flora (Miller) Allen. He retired after many years from his own business, W. Lawrence Allen Dory Builders, Lunenburg. He was a former first mate on the Bluenose. Captain Allen also served as a councillor for the town of Lunenburg. He was a member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg; a member of Eastern Star, Grace Chapter No. 8, Lunenburg; a member of the Masonic Unity No. 4 Lodge, and a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Halifax. He is survived by his wife, the former Violet Knickle; a daughter, Jean (Mrs. George Black), Lunenburg; two sisters, Mrs. Christie Geddes, Halifax; and Mrs. Ada Tanner, Lunenburg. He was predeceased by his first wife, Myrtle; a daughter, Dorothy; two sons, Murray and Arthur; four sisters, Viola, Jean, Phoebe, and Elmore; and two brothers, Robert and Charles. The body rested in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral was 2 p.m. Friday, October 19, 1984, in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating, with burial in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
